Our intern who has been contributing to the Congdon DeValles school project, Sophie Varekamp, received a significant grant to create an artist-driven treasure hunt through Hengelo's city center in the Netherlands. The themes of curiosity, playfulness, adventure, and wonder will be used by artists in the Overijsel province as they are commissioned to create work for the project. The idea is to prompt people to step out of their personal zones to connect with passersby.

Zoe Perry-Wood '81 is introducing the printmaking exhibit she curated at the Munroe Center for the Arts in Lexington. This is a fantastic creative community with artists' studios, dance studios and now a printmaking shop and gallery, and it is thriving! Among the attendees were alumni Carol Lieb, '83, Debra Olin '80, and me. View at 1403 Mass Ave until November 23, with recent equipment donations and new members.

Earlier this month, I was fortunate to participate in the New England Museum Associations Environmental Community of Practice Field Trip to Historic New England's Pierce House. By leading us through two very well-prepared and informative presentations, the Historic New England staff shared the House's history and climate change plans. The House was beyond charming, and a special feature was a teazle joint created by the North Bennet Street School students to demonstrate how the house timbering is visible in the second-floor room.

Did you feel the wave of positivity on Sunday as the 5-Boro bike ride took place in New York City? I was one of the 32,000 riders of all abilities and cycles to participate in this rolling celebration of the city. There was even a high-wheeler and a triple-wheel unicycle among the racers, electric bikes, and hybrids. The best part was crossing the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge!

For those of us in the northeast corner of the country, what could be more fun than kicking off a project in sunny Port Hueneme, California, where the temperature is a steady 70 degrees all year round. Our destination was the Naval construction Battalion Center, Building 1444, the Center for Seabee....

See the research, comment on if you find it valid.

New research provides clear evidence linking wildfires to the world's largest global carbon polluters. We can't sit back and watch our communities go up in smoke while corporate profits soar. Urge Chevron and ExxonMobil to stop fueling forest fires.
