Featuring the exterior interpretive program at the Shaw elementary school in Millbury, another dazzling learning environment created by T2 Architecture and Dodson Flinker. The topics are the playground, a colorful meadow, rich wetlands, and waterpower. Along with Sarah Morris, content developer and writer, CDC developed and designed these stories and others. Playground physics remains a favorite, brightened by the illustrations of Christina Trapanese, a Naples, Italy-based illustrator.

You never know who you will run into at History Camp. For instance, here I am with Mrs. Washington, yes, that's right, the wife of our founding father, George. She set the standards for first ladies by organizing a sewing circle to repair soldiers' uniforms.
Re-enactors like Sandy Spector can connect us with stories of the past through their humanity in a way unmatched by any other media.

The next two photos feature Judith Kalora's company, "History at Play," another re-enactor we have seen many times, and finally, Jeff Howry, Phd informs us of the importance of preserving our colonial agricultural fences, or rock walls. A colonial fence viewer, still a position in towns, surveyed these barriers to ensure they were bull-strong, sheep-high, and hog-tight.

An incredible gathering of MassArt alumni at the Untold Brewery in Scituate. This event was co-hosted by President Mary Grant and Ed Malouf ’85, both Scituate residents, and orchestrated by the Alumni Relations Department. Well over 55 people attended, and Photographer Kylie Menos did an excellent job capturing the energy of the evening.

A recent visit to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum (Oudens Ello Architecture) was a delightful experience, the family space made me wish I had young children in tow! It is generous in experiences with the comfort of the parents considered as well.

The Mish Michaels Hall for Scientific Discovery will be opening in July, and includes the Henry LaPrade image of the Worcester tornado during its 84-minute touchdown. Today is the 90th anniversary of this tragic 1953 event, it prompted the reorganization of the Storm Prediction Center and implementation of our very effective nationwide radar/storm spotter system.

Visited the Forbes House Museum in Milton, (Historic New England) to view O***m: The Business of Addiction. The metal poppies lining the pathway to the front door introduce visitors in a understated way to the tragic history described inside. In spite China’s strictest protocols for trading with Western countries, the o***m trade blew it all up. The effects are with us today. This capable house-museum exhibit, with no digital interactives, shared a powerful story.

Our exhibit at Highfield Hall & Gardens will include the people who cooked, cleaned, gardened, hauled, chopped wood, to feed, keep warm and maintain the “House of Dreams” for the Beebe family in Falmouth. Most of these people were from Ireland. The first two photos are from Highfield Hall, the third is my grandmother, Nora Parker, as a domestic in Brookline, MA, shown here on the right in the circa 1930.

I heard an exhibit opened in Philadelphia last week! The Museum of the American Revolution held its largest exhibit opening ever with Black Founders: The Forten Family of Philadelphia last Thursday. CDC collaborated with the MoAR team, headed by Aimee Newell, with Matthew Skic, curator, Kathryn Babbs Miller, project manager, and Rebecca Phipps, art director. The Museum arranged for works by composer Francis Johnson to be performed by local musicians. Johnson was a talented fiddle player, a keyed bugle virtuoso, and a friend of the Fortens.

Sarah Morris, Rebecca Migdal, and Content started up the Period Room and History Gallery with the team at Highfield Hall & Gardens in Falmouth, MA. Please share any memories you might have if you have been! James Madison Beebe envisioned a “House of Dreams,” where he and his family would escape from the Boston bustle and recapture the western Massachusetts pastoral of his youth in Pittsfield. But dreams are made from money ; the Beebe name can be found in several Boston financial district locations.

Looks like Pac-Man but aimed for the stars; this siderostat installed at the Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory analyzed sun and starlight to measure nitrous oxide and airglow. Installed in 1962, it was soon made obsolete by satellites. However, it will be featured in the equipment exhibit this spring as an example of Observatory innovation.

Last week Content•Design kicked off a design workshop at the Boston waterfront offices of Interactive and the Hill Observatory and Science Center, Inc. for the restoration of their west room. BHMO has the longest weather record in North America, containing over a hundred years of data of the local climate. Currently, the exhibit is in its final infrastructure stages, led by Architecture. Here you can see an image of a rangefinder used at BHMO to determine the necessary height of weather instruments flown by kites.
