Nan’s Storyhour Rediscovered books for young readers

01/16/2023

It’s in progress… Book #3 in the USA BACK THEN Series! 👏🏻 This book has it: Trees (BIG ones), rivers, folklore, brawn, bravery and danger.

It’s history, but it’s also current events. It’s about a very important aspect in the development of this country, from as early as the first settlers in colonial America, through the westward expansion, and is still extremely necessary nowadays. It makes money, and men out of boys.

Any guesses on the topic?

December 7! Today is “Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day”

81 years ago … Europe was already experiencing war. German soldiers were invading Poland and France. Air raids were common. Bombs and bullets were real.

The United States didn’t want to get involved. Let them fight their own war!

And then Pearl Harbor happened…

“We Were There the Day Pearl Harbor Was Bombed” is an eyewitness account of what really happened on that peaceful Sunday morning in Hawaii.

Let’s help our children remember what freedom cost!

A 3.5 hour audiobook for middle grade kids makes history come alive! Just released! Appearing on all the major online retailers today and/or very soon!

Sometimes the best friends are the old ones, and this is especially true of books.

How many of us don’t have old favorites that bring back a host of memories? We remember the stories, but coupled with that memory is also the memory of who and where we were at that time. Like me the bookish schoolgirl, grabbing a fresh tangy apple and sitting under the huge old pine tree right outside the front door-with a book of course. Or huddled under the covers with a flashlight. (I had a stern mother who thought I read too much.) Or a vision -and the bookish smell- of the town library, with whole series of books marching across those metal shelves. That library. Wish I had more of the discarded books on my own shelves.

So it’s with pleasure that I bring some of those stories back into circulation. Most of us still love a real book in our hands, with real pages. But many books are out-of-print and getting harder to find. With today’s rise in digital publishing, I’m happy to share these stories with the children of today. They deserve a chance at them also!!!

I start with a book that’s out of copyright, scan, reformat, clean up the illustrations, add an informative foreword and/or illustrations if needed, and publish as an ebook. Then I narrate the story and publish as an audiobook. SELF PUBLISH, I might add. Sounds simple, right?

It’s actually had a few learning curves, but it’s a rewarding work! The following pics are of the first book I published. It’s available on all the major online retailers, as ebook and audiobook. Remember, it was my first 🫣 I’m already getting better at it! 😉
