Yesterday evening we had a random rain shower come through as we finished giving water to the animals, while the sun was still out shining. It put a rainbow over the boys Mamaw and Papaws house.

Genesis 9:16 KJV
And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

When you go for Sunday drives around here, you never know what you're going to come across. This weekend we saw a young bear and this beautifully patterned Rattlesnake. We kept our distance, but got videos and pictures. This one was definitely a lot more defensive than most we have seen, any time I bent down it would curl more. Bobby said he was too defensive for him to play Crocodile Hunter and lay on the ground with 😂

Being a parent to boys...

They will drive you crazy, whether it's pranks or the newest sound effect they have come up with that makes you want to pull your hair out.

They will test your patience, finding every single last nerve you can possibly have just because they find it amusing.

They will turn your hair gray faster than you can say stop. Whether it's attempting to be Evel Knievel and showing you their new trick, or the famous "Look mom!" while you just hope and pray nobody has blood on them.

What they don't tell you about being a parent to boys...

They will love you in ways you never thought possible, they may show it differently, but they do. They will want to wrestle and nit pick a fight with you, they may give you a flower from your own garden, they may want to get into water wars and mud fights but it's there. It is there when they need you, when it's scraped knees and bumps, and when it's sickness and confused emotions. It's the fit of giggles at bedtime, but their laughter is making you laugh now.

They will follow you, EVERYWHERE but they will soak up anything and everything you teach them, whether you think they are listening or not. Letting them watch you do tasks and talking to them, is the best lesson they could ask for. Changing your oil? Let them watch, let them ask questions, let them hand you a tool.
Building something? Let them help hammer a nail, or hold a board.

We only have so many years where they are around us all the time, and we take for granted every single one. Every moment is priceless. Every long day is worth the easy ones.

What nobody tells you about being a parent to boys is that... You will always have a friend, a buddy, a tag-a-long, a prankster, your very own Evel Knievel, and you will love every second of it.

Bobby did his first good check on the bees, see how they've built out their comb and to check for larva, all of which are doing well. They have built comb out on two additional frames, larva is visible and after reviewing the video he took, and posting, family helped us recognize that the big bee we saw was just a drone bee (male). We will have to go in one day and try and find the queen, though we know she is there because we saw larva. Bees are new to us, and it's a trial and error type of thing. Part of learning is making mistakes, but that is a good thing because you learn from that and know better for the next time. Thankful we have had good help from family to navigate the new experiences.

We have been in a drought since the beginning of the year, according to the weather station we needed 10+ inches of rain to get us to base level. Not sure exactly how much we got over the last few days but I can say the grass is greener, the garden is doing much better and the ground isn't pure dust anymore thank the good Lord above.

With the rain making it possible for us to finally burn some brush piles that had stacking up ever since Hurricane Helene wiped out several of the trees.

The boys got to see how they cut the trees near power lines here in the mountains. They had seen it from a distance before but this time it was close to the house and they got to watch it for longer than just a few minutes. Thankful that they are getting some of the lines here cleared out, this route is notorious for trees falling and the power going out, especially during the winter months.

Something about an evening thunderstorm just hits differently, we weren't even expecting rain yesterday, it didn't last long but it sure was pretty moving through the mountains.

We cleaned up around our hive this morning when Mamaw saw a listing for free beehive and supplies and sent it to me, I was already typing out the message to the person while explaining to Bobby we had to go, he gave me the okay and I sent it. We loaded up the kids, Mamaw and Papaw and drove to Gray to get it. To say we were excited to get it was an understatement. Now we have unpacked it all and are getting it all set up to have ready for another hive.
