🌪️DANGEROUS SEVERE WEATHER TODAY!

Severe thunderstorms are expected through tonight across the Southeast, Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, and southern Great Lakes, bringing widespread damaging winds, large to very large hail (1.5-2.5 inches), and tornadoes, some potentially strong.

📍Midwest, Ohio Valley, and Great Lakes:

Thunderstorms will intensify this afternoon, featuring supercells and linear storm modes across the Midwest, Ohio Valley, and southern Great Lakes.

⚠️Hazards: Supercells will produce large to very large hail (1.5-2.5 inches) and tornadoes, with the greatest tornado risk near and south of the Ohio River. Damaging winds will increase as squall lines form, producing multiple swaths of destruction.

Duration: The threat of damaging winds and tornadoes will persist into the overnight hours, weakening as storms reach the upper Ohio Valley and central Appalachians.

📍Central/East Texas, Mid-South, and Southeast:

Strong destabilization will fuel intense thunderstorms starting this afternoon from central/east Texas to the Mid-South and Southeast.

⚠️Hazards: Initial supercells, supported by 40-50+ kt of deep-layer shear, will produce large to very large hail and tornadoes. The highest risk for STRONG TORNADOES is expected from eastern Arkansas to western Tennessee during the evening hours.

Severe storms will spread into the lower Mississippi Valley and central Gulf Coast states through tonight, bringing hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes, with intensity gradually decreasing late tonight.

Stay tuned for more updates!

WATCHING SUNDAY MARCH 30th!

This has to be one of the largest SPC Day 7 outlooks I’ve seen. A large expansive warm sector is expected to develop ahead of our next approaching system, and it looks like many of us will have the potential for more widespread severe weather!

Busy week ahead keeping up with the latest details on this one!

🥶Friday morning's freeze wears of quickly, and we're going to warm up to the 60s in the afternoon - and then into the 70s for highs this weekend!

🧐There will be some storms in ONE BIG WAVE from Sunday evening to Monday morning. We've got 2 "Impact Days" on the 7 Day Forecast, but it's really one 12-hour period that straddles the two days. On close, CLOSE inspection, I don't see much reason to fear those storms except for the normal things that storms do like wake you up with loud crashes of thunder, bring brief heavy rain, and in the worst case, bring some small hail or wind gusts strong enough to do a little tree or trampoline damage. (No big deal)

😎After that, most of next week is smooth sailing. We'll look to see if some showers/storms could materialize from a little wave by Thursday/Friday, and then the next "good" chance of rain would be toward the first few days of April.

New model data this evening continues to paint an alarming picture for Saturday afternoon. A significant severe weather event is likely to unfold across the South. In north Alabama we're looking at numerous clusters and individual storms coming through Saturday afternoon and into the evening hours. All hazards will be possible including damaging wind gusts of more than 70 mph and tornadoes. The atmosphere will favor the potential for long-track strong tornadoes of EF-2 intensity or higher. Please stay weather alert and take any warnings seriously. Make sure your friends and family are aware of the weather situation. The WAAY 31 Stormtracker Weather team will be here from Friday night through Saturday evening monitoring the weather situation and tracking the storms. We'll have coverage on-air at WAAY-TV, online at waaytv.com and on the WAAY 31 Stormtracker Weather app.
