WWIC has served this area since 1950 and has hosted “The Partyline Show” since 1955.

Some highlights from last night's Scottsboro win over Sardis. Colton Harding was 19 of 28 passing for 234 yards and two touchdowns (Conner Vaden, Cohen Thompson). Jacobi Edmondson rushed 16 times for 100 net yards, moving into 5th place on Scottsboro's career rushing yardage list. He passed Wildcat great Corey Wellington. Conner Vaden, Kasch Matayo and Ty Fowler each had an interception. Matayo returned his pick 43 yards for a score. Vaden now has six interceptions in five games. Jayden Gilbert had two rushing touchdowns.

THIS DATE IN SCOTTSBORO FOOTBALL HISTORY - September 20, 1963. The Scottsboro secondary picked off five Moulton passes and Donald Whitehead scored three quick touchdowns as the Wildcats defeated the visitors from Lawrence County 40-6. In addition to Whitehead’s three scores, the Wildcats found the endzone on a 62-yard pass play from Herschel Evans to Jody Gamble, a four yard run by Mike Williamson and a 70 yard interception return by Tommy McNeil. The 1963 squad finished 9-1-0 under head coach John Meadows, the only loss coming to Haleyville in the season opener.

THIS DATE IN SCOTTSBORO FOOTBALL HISTORY - September 20, 1957. After shutting out their first two opponents, the Wildcats were finally scored on but the good buys came away with a 38-6 victory over Albertville at City Field. The Wildcats scored two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters and was held scoreless in the fourth. Quarterback Pat Trammell scored the first three touchdowns, one a 76-yard scamper to open the second quarter. The Wildcats rushed for 328 yards. Under head coach Jack Cornelius, the Wildcats went 7-3-0. The 1957 season marked the first as Scottsboro High School.

THIS DATE IN SCOTTSBORO FOOTBALL HISTORY - September 20, 1929. The Wildcats of Jackson County High School opened the 1929 season hosting Ardmore at Hunt Field. The game was never in doubt as the home team took a 44-0 victory. The 1929 squad under head coach J.O. Davie started the campaign winning their first three games and finished 5-2-0.

The Northeast Alabama Community College Lady Mustangs open their fall schedule with a 6-0 win over Marion Military Institute. Former Scottsboro Lady Wildcat Austin McNeece goes 1 for 3 with an RBI double and Morgan Perkins 0 for 2 with a walk. Catcher Francesca Lumpp (Newnan GA) is 2 for 2 with an RBI. Marti McCluskey (Tuscaloosa) with a homerun. Addison Edwards (Chatsworth GA) goes throws five innings of scoreless ball, giving up three hits and striking out eight. Kaylleigh Warnock throws two innings, giving up 1 walk and striking out three. Congratulations to the Lady Mustangs. THIS DATE IN SCOTTSBORO FOOTBALL HISTORY - September 19, 1975 - Scottsboro’s “junkyard” defense held Cherokee County’s sensational running back Sam Fyte to 102 yards rushing and a touchdown and the Wildcat offense scored three times to defeat the Warriors 20-8 at Trammell Stadium. Don Jacobs rushed for two scores and threw for another as the Wildcat offense rushed for 144 yards and passed for another 88 yards. The touchdown pass went to John Nicholson. Cherokee County coach Bobby Joe Johnson refused to shake hands with Larry Keys following the game. Scottsboro finished the 1975 campaign with a record of 4-5-0.

THIS DATE IN SCOTTSBORO FOOTBALL HISTORY - September 19, 1947 - The season opened at “Athletic Field” against the West Huntsville Wildcats, who had begun their program just two years earlier. The JCHS Wildcats came away with a 27-0 victory in front of one of the largest crowds in recent football history. The game was scoreless until the final quarter when quarterback Petty (first name not known) threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Luke Boykin. Bud Hancock added the extra point. Head coach J.B. McClendon’s second and final season at Scottsboro ended with a record of 6-3-1. McClendon played his high school ball at JCHS for the seasons of 1929-1933. He also served as head coach of the basketball team for the seasons of 1947 and 1948. A JCHS yearbook for the Class of 1948 is not available.

THIS DATE IN SCOTTSBORO FOOTBALL HISTORY - September 19, 1930 - The Wildcats of Jackson County High School traveled to Ardmore to take on the Tigers in the season opener for 1930. The close game went to Ardmore by a score of 12-7. Scottsboro’s only score of the game came in the second quarter when the Wildcats blocked an Ardmore punt. Captain Paul (Coot) Davis recovered the blocked kick for a touchdown. Jack Downey went through left tackle and into the endzone for the successful extra point. Ardmore scored in the third quarter but the try for point was no good and the Wildcats led 7-6 going to the fourth. Ardmore added another score to take the victory. Under coach J.O. Davie, the Wildcats finished with a record 5-4-1. The team notched program win number 50 over Valley Head on November 14th at home by a score of 12-0. The season came to an end on Thanksgiving Day with a 6-6 tie to Stevenson.
