Stewart L. Udall (1920-2010) was a pioneer in environmental advocacy. From Arizona, he helped pass major conservation legislation. Working as U.S. Secretary of the Interior under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, he worked to protect millions of acres of public land, expand national parks and public lands system, and lay the groundwork for modern sustainability efforts in the Southwest. Udall championed landmark conservation laws, and helped spark modern environmental awareness with his book: The Quiet Crisis. His legacy endures through major environmental protections and the foundation that bears his family’s name.

When we fight for clean air, safe water, thriving wildlife, and untouched wild spaces… we’re really fighting for our own future. A healthy ecosystem isn’t a luxury, it’s our lifeline!

ECO-NEWS OF THE WEEK: Arizona is cooling our cities, one tree at a time 🏡🌳

Cities across the Valley are rolling out tree equity programs to fight rising temps by planting shade trees where they’re needed most.
By focusing on heat-trapping, underserved neighborhoods, this movement is about sustainability and social equity.

Arizona cities began planning long-term tree-canopy goals years ago, but only started actively planting in underserved neighborhoods over the last 12-18 months thanks to new federal “tree equity” grants. A state bill is also in the works to send more funding toward urban heat-relief forestry projects.
