Our dear friend, Katie Weaver is a respected author and someone we look up to as a standards-maker for children’s picture books.

We LOVE supporting other authors who consistently raise the bar for introducing GREAT stories to the world.

Katie has created two book series and this is the Kickstarter for the SECOND two books in each series. I’ve read the first two books and they are HOME RUNS. You need these in your collection.

On a personal note, she and I (Lin Hawthorne) are on very similar paths. She has five children and she is building a career in writing and publishing children’s books. She is building a legacy for her kids AND passive income to be able to be the mom she wants to be and provide for her family. Getting this Kickstarter funded is VITALLY important.

I know *I* have reached that point in summer where getting up the motivation (as a mom) ...to motivate the kids is getting tough.

But it's still SO important to have kids daily participate in a pickup routine. Even if it everything kind of looks the same in the before/after shot 😂

Mom's Not® books really help nudge kids (and parents) toward adopting a great attitude about responsibility. Every time they run toward adversity, it gets just a little bit easier the next time. Don't give up on doing the GOOD HARD work.

No one can tackle a crazy road trip like Mom & Dad.

And now that I'm grown, I know exactly how crazy they were.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We're talking sometimes over 18 hours in an Oldsmobile.

AN OLDSMOBILE! With whitewall tires. I bet some of you remember those. That was when we had three kids. I think we got the first minivan when we had the last baby brother.

At first I had my illustrator use an actual Oldsmobile as the model for the car, but then my marketing person, Melanie Herschorn rightly pointed out, "Lin, we need to change that. That looks like a 'crime car'."

I laughed so hard because she was right. And then the realization that we rode around in a crime car or most of my early childhood just had me rolling.

Those rode trips to south Louisiana were legendary. Now I know that my mom and dad had nerves of steel. That was the days were there were no tablets or movies. There was just counting cows and license plates and irritating your siblings and reciting Bugs Bunny cartoons from start to finish. Over and over and over. And being forced to listing to country music.

I don't think I'm up for an 18 hour road trip with the kids at this point. Pretty sure it would kill all of us.

Granny and Grandpa. Like peas and carrots. Like peanut butter and jelly. You can't have one without the other.

After a long road trip we'd take to get to the farm, G&G would always be waiting to greet us on the back porch, sitting on their rocking chairs, just waiting.

When we pulled into the driveway, they'd stand up out of their chairs and wave. We would all spill out of the car for a hug fest.

The kids would all run around the farm and go find their favorite things: the animals. I'd find my favorite farm dog and cat and then we'd all run out to say hi to the cows (and avoid the cow pies).

This is "Gramps." AKA Marvin Tanner, former WWII Naval officer and patriarch of the Tanner clan.

I don't think he has a middle name, but that's still up for debate amongst family members.

Gramps was a CHARMER.

"Sara, can you go get me my house slippers?"
I'd get him anything he wanted.

He'd just grin his big grin with that twinkle in his eye and he'd feed me vanilla wafers and water from his giant pump thermos next to his easy chair. I think that water was actually magic... at least I thought so.

I'd snuggle up next to him in the early morning (back when I actually got up early mornings) and he and I would grab his binoculars and we'd watch his cows come in to feed from the back pasture.

We'd compete against each other at night to guess all the jeopardy questions, but really, he was way ahead. He was a former school principal and he knew LOTS about everything.

Ohhhh I love me a good ensemble cast!

Over the next few days, I'll be introducing you to each and every one from "The Barnyard Sang in the Merriest Way." This is "Gran" aka Emma Eugenia Howes Tanner.

She had for more patience for all of us than we ever deserved. She was a great cook who never really followed a recipe, it was just ingrained in her.

She lived her whole life in south Louisiana. She was a home-economics teacher when she married my grandfather. They raised 6 kids on a small subsistence farm.

For me, she always represented everything that was good and safe. I always felt safe to make a mistake in her presence and safe to learn. She didn't care if I ran around dirty, but she did get irritated if we riled up her chickens ;)

It's BLAZING HOT and not beginning to look at ALL like Christmas, here in AZ, but my advanced copies just came in. ANNNNDDD they turned around and went right out again! Headed off to apply for some editorial reviews and other shops interested in carrying it. This story is so fun to read. An absolute rhythm machine. You'll stand up and shake your b***y!
