Here is the part that gets me. The TV takes little screenshots of your own screen, over and over, to log every show you watch. You never turned it on. They did, the day you clicked agree.

This is not new. The FTC already fined Vizio $2.2 million for spying on 11 million TVs. And a Texas lawsuit says the other makers sell that list to data brokers, tied to your name. The Texas Attorney General sued Sony, Samsung, LG, Hisense, and TCL over it back in December. Samsung already settled. The other four are still fighting it in court. 📺

In October 2025, Google quietly switched on its Gemini AI across 1.8 billion accounts. No popup. No email. No box to check. It just turned on.

Here’s what they don’t tell you about that.

The car you own has a secret second job. It’s reporting on you. Your hard braking, your fast turns, how late you drive, where you go. Carmakers hand that driving data to data brokers, and those brokers sell it to insurance companies.

Then one day your rate goes up and nobody can tell you why.

This isn’t a maybe. GM got hit with a $12.75 million settlement for funneling driver data to LexisNexis. Real money. Real proof. And it’s not just one brand. Connected cars across the board are doing the same thing.

You never handed it over. An app on your phone did.

The FTC sued a data broker called Kochava for selling the exact location of millions of phones. The doctor’s office. The church. The school pickup line.

Here’s how those apps know: the weather app, the old game, that coupon app you opened once. They quietly send your location all day. Brokers buy it, package it, and sell where you go to anyone with a credit card.

That same map shows what time you leave for work and what time your kids get home alone.

Your kid’s face is not as private as you think. 😳

When you post a photo, free AI face apps and people-search sites can scrape it. Pair that face with a name, a school, and a town, and a stranger can build a full profile of your child. Scary, but here’s the good news: a few simple changes shut most of this down. 🛡️

Do these today, one at a time:

📍 Turn off location on your photos. Your camera quietly stamps where each photo was taken, including your home and your kid’s school.

On iPhone: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Camera > tap Never.

On Android: open your Camera app, go into its settings, and turn off “Location tags” (some phones call it “Save location” or “Store location data”).
If you don’t see it: Settings > Apps > Camera > Permissions > Location > Don’t allow.

🔒 Set your profile to private. A public account means anyone can grab every photo. Private means you choose who sees your kids.

🚫 Stop posting the details that build the profile. Skip the school name, the team name, and the birthday post with the big number. Those little facts are exactly what a stranger needs.

🧹 Pull your family off people-search sites. Search your own name and your kids’ names. When their listings pop up, use each site’s opt-out page to remove them.

None of this means stop sharing the people you love. It means share smart. 💛

One person in your Google account doesn’t need your bank password or your email password. They just hit “forgot password,” and every code lands in the inbox they’re already sitting in.

One key should never open every door. Here’s how you take your keys back in a few quiet minutes:

1. Turn on 2-step verification for your Google account.
2. Remove any app you don’t recognize from “third-party apps with account access.”
3. For your bank, email, and password manager, use a separate password instead of the button.
