Native American Art

Native American Art See upcoming shows, discovering new artists, and supporting Native American & Indigenous Artists.

Through Western Art Collector, we have spent the last decade as very active participants in the Native arts market. We have already been media sponsors for events such as the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market and the Cherokee Art Market. We’ve been waiting for the perfect time to launch a magazine that focuses entirely on the market for contemporary and historic N

ative American arts and we feel that time is now. Native American Art is unique in that it PREVIEWS exhibitions, gallery shows, fairs, markets and auctions before they open rather than REVIEWS them after the event is over. You now have the opportunity to have your upcoming events previewed in a timely manner. Readers are then able to make intelligent choices about the fine art pieces they want to add to their collections. Native American Art enlivens the market for historic and contemporary Native art by focusing on the personalities and characters behind the scenes who make it all happen. Native American Art magazine focuses on future upcoming shows and auctions, making serious collectors aware in advance of the major works coming to market. Editorial will include authoritative commentary by curators as well as interviews with top gallery and museum directors. Inside the Homes of Major Collectors
Through the pages of this magazine, our award-winning photographers take readers inside the homes of major Native American art collectors. Native American Art is the first-ever bimonthly publication offering complete and comprehensive coverage of the market for contemporary and historic Native art. Native American Art will cover upcoming shows, auctions, fairs, markets, exhibitions and events of this always-fascinating market so deeply tied to Native American history, society and culture.

VERY RARE and Unusual Tesuque Pueblo Historic Pottery Tureen
Circa 1880

This unique Tesuque Pueblo tureen was likely made at the request of a Santa Fe merchant in the late 19th century. Potters from this pueblo were known to adapt their work for commercial purposes. The tureen features a large bird with a beautiful tail on one side, and on the other, a ladder design reminiscent of a kiva entrance. The lid is adorned with a spirited depiction of a storm, including rain clouds and lightning bolts. This piece is a magnificent example of a Pueblo potter venturing beyond traditional forms.

Indian Motorcycle , based out of Spirit Lake, Iowa, recently re-teamed with SWAIA - Santa Fe Indian Market continuing a collaboration that has brought Native American artists into the motorcycle world.

The motorcycle company worked with 10 artists to create unique patches were offered at Santa Fe Indian Market. The project is titled Roots & Roads Project and only 100 patches of each design were created, each selling for $40. All proceeds from the patches went directly to SWAIA. The artists who contributed to the project were Patricia Michaels (Taos Pueblo), Ashley Browning (Pojoaque/Santa Clara Pueblo), Giovanni Benally (Navajo Nation), Odo Ishkiin (Apache/Shishone), Brooklyn Miller (Wichita/Camanche), Randi Nelson (Bonaparte First Nation), Camryn Growing Thunder (Fort Peck Assiniboine/Sioux (Dakota)), Emil Her Many Horses (Oglala Lakota), Bazille Owen Reese (Ho Chunk Nation of Wisconsin), Kindra Swafford
(Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) and Hayden Haynes (Seneca Nation).

OXDX is a Diné-owned fashion label founded by artist Jared Oxdx Yazzie in Tempe, Arizona. Blending bold digital art, cut-and-sew apparel and powerful storytelling, OXDX challenges the erasure of Indigenous voices while celebrating Native identity
and resistance. The name is an acronym for the word “overdose,” and urges reflection on consumption, responsibility and connection to land and culture. We are excited to feature the brand in our Fashion Forward section in this issue of Native American Art magazine and saw them on the runway in August at Sovereignly Fit in Santa Fe. Check the new lines out at www.oxdxclothing.com and on social media channels too.
