VINTAGE VINYL YEAR 17!!!

THIS MORNING AT 10AM!

It's been a long and rough summer for "musical passings." We lost a LOT of truly legendary performers since May 1st. So before we get to all the "heavy hitters," we'll begin YEAR 17 with a trio of mini tributes.

REMEMBERING...

JAMES LOWE -- vocalist of 60's psychedelic garage rockers THE ELECTRIC PRUNES.
He passed away 5/22 at the age of 82.

LOU CHRISTIE -- 60's pop/rock singer. He passed away 6/18 at the age of 82.

BOBBY SHERMAN -- early 70's teen idol. He passed away 6/24 at the age of 81.

The records are IN HOUSE -- original pressings NOW spinning in THE WINDOW as this is the FIRST Vintage Vinyl in the all new studios on the ground floor of the Learning Commons.

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!

While there still may be a few more "finishing touches" being added to our new studios, they are 90-95% completed. So...

Mark the Shark and Mike Evans are taking over the VM-FM 91-7 airwaves TODAY...LABOR DAY...at 1pm for a new studio "test drive."

We'll see if everything is properly grounded, balanced, hooked up and ready to roll. Some of the usual indie rock/alternative fun as we test out all the studio computers, and an ALL VINYL FREE-FOR-ALL later in the day as Evans fires up the decks.

It could run smoothly. It could be a live disaster. Who knows? We're just happy that we now have an outside view as the new studios are on the ground floor of the Learning Commons. Oh, and BTW, if you're on campus, you can now look IN and see US.

The big broadcast starts at 1PM...and goes until...WHO KNOWS?

In two weeks, during Alumni Weekend, we will have the official unveiling and ribbon cutting of our new first floor VMFM studio (with a campus view)! We’re also doing an upgrade to our logo and overall look! Saturday, September 13 at 3pm! (We’re also hosting alumni on that day to do radio shifts, so stay tuned!)

Until then, we’ll be doing some shows from the new studio to make sure everything works, and our Fall semester DJ’s should be starting live shifts real soon!

VMFM’s studio was located in the basement of our former building and underground in our current building, so this is the first time we’re able to be seen!

ARE YOU READY??

VINTAGE VINYL YEAR 17 launches WEDNESDAY (9/3) at 10am!!

Of course, I'll be coming in bright and early at 8am BEFORE "Vinyl" for a couple of hours of alternative/indie rock (as usual). So join me then.

My first OFFICIAL broadcast from the NEW VM-FM studios on the GROUND FLOOR of the Learning Commons. That's right...I (along with the records) will be VISIBLE on campus. SEE YOU (literally) then.

VMFM 91.7 is in the running for Local Radio Station of the Year at this year’s Steamtown Music Awards. We are the only college radio station in the running and we’re against some of the area’s dominant commercial stations. But, the main award winner is 1/3 determined by fan votes (2/3 by committee), with voting counting for 100% of a separate “People’s Choice” award so voting is a big deal! We’d appreciate any support you can give us either by voting or sharing. Thank you!

And full disclosure -- some CD CHEATS this week as we enter the 90's and 2000's.

Then, we close for the summer. Fingers crossed -- YEAR 17 begins this September in the NEW VMFM studios UPSTAIRS.

Remembering two more legendary performers the music world lost recently.

We're in the psychedelic 60's today.

First, we salute JESSE COLIN YOUNG, vocalist/guitarist and founding member of folk rockers THE YOUNGBLOODS. He passed away 3/16 at the age of 83.

Next, we remember LARRY TAMBLYN, vocalist and founding member of garage rockers THE STANDELLS. He passed away 3/21 at the age of 82.

Original RCA and TOWER pressings...many in glorious MONO. The TOWER sides pressed in Scranton, PA.

We're all over the musical map today with three mini-tributes to some artists the music world recently lost.

First, it's 70's pop as we remember American vocalist ROBERT JOHN. He passed away 2/24 at the age of 79.

Next, it's early 70's soul as we salute FRIENDS OF DISTINCTION vocalist and founding member HARRY ELSTON. He passed away 3/4 at the age of 86.

Finally, actor RICHARD CHAMBERLAIN. Yeah, the guy made records and actually charted a couple in the early 60's. He passed away 3/29 at the age of 90.
