You're obviously familiar with the acronym BFF, right? Well, there are five ladies spending the weekend in Strathmere this week who take it very literally. They've been friends since first grade at St. Francis Xavier in the Fairmont section of Philadelphia. That's just about 80 years. The original group, which numbered at about 15, initially got together weekly, while in school. Because of growing family commitments, eventually those weekly get togethers evolved into monthly dinners and then luncheons. For the past decade it's been an annual get together in Strathmere. They rely on children and grandchildren for their transportation because no one drives any more. They now have seven members. This year family commitments and some unforeseen transportation issues cut the number down to five. One member travels all the way from Arizona. "I've been there for 50 years," she explained, "But it's still important to stay in touch," she explained. They spend lots of time talking, reminiscing and catching up and then they all head out to a restaurant for dinner on Saturday. Eight decades of friendship? They truly are BFF.
