What an amazing day for day 2 of the Sea Isle City's Winter Village. The temperatures were crisp, but the sky was clear and blue -- a beautiful day to smile in Sea Isle. And folks came out in droves to visit with Santa, Mickey and Minnie, jump start their holiday shopping, enjoy great food and just have some good family fun.

Thanks to Jennaphr Fredericks and the Fox 29 Good Day Team for giving the Delaware Valley a sneak peek at Girl's Weekend this morning from the Oar House and at Hank Sauce. Lots of merchants participating in the broadcast. Fox 29 did several live cut ins to remind everyone that November 21 thru 23 is the weekend to be in SIC to shop for the holidays. Lots of amazing deals that you won't want to miss.

It's the most wonderful time of year and Shannon (shown here) is busy finishing decorating for the holidays at Mike's Seafood. She needs to finish up because she's also helping Mike's prepare to be at the Winter Village in Excursion Park (Nov 29 11-8 and Nov 29 11-8). Forget the Christmas balls, you can have Mike's crab balls! We'll be posting more photos of Mike's and Sea Isle City's fabulous holiday decorations later this week. There's a long-time tradition across the TI Bridge. After folks vote they make a b-line to Our Saviour Lutheran Church for the Election Night Dinner. It's obviously a short drive to 92nd Street in SH and it's always delicious. Walk-in are welcome but why not get your tickets in advance?

Thanks to the Avalon Public Library for hosting Tom McCann this evening as he introduced his book, THE GUARDS, South Jersey Lifeguarding from Brigantine to Cape May Point. Calling Tom's work, a "book" doesn't do it justice. It's an amazing 191-page collection of well researched stories, records, photos and media clips covering the history of lifeguarding in South Jersey and focusing on every beach patrol from Brigantine to Cape May Point. Tom gave an insightful presentation and answered questions from those in attendance. To learn more about this great book or to purchase a copy, visit:

You're obviously familiar with the acronym BFF, right? Well, there are five ladies spending the weekend in Strathmere this week who take it very literally. They've been friends since first grade at St. Francis Xavier in the Fairmont section of Philadelphia. That's just about 80 years. The original group, which numbered at about 15, initially got together weekly, while in school. Because of growing family commitments, eventually those weekly get togethers evolved into monthly dinners and then luncheons. For the past decade it's been an annual get together in Strathmere. They rely on children and grandchildren for their transportation because no one drives any more. They now have seven members. This year family commitments and some unforeseen transportation issues cut the number down to five. One member travels all the way from Arizona. "I've been there for 50 years," she explained, "But it's still important to stay in touch," she explained. They spend lots of time talking, reminiscing and catching up and then they all head out to a restaurant for dinner on Saturday. Eight decades of friendship? They truly are BFF.

The Sea Isle City community lost a giant yesterday. Long-time summer resident Jim Murray passed away. Jim was, by most accounts, simply an amazing human being. He's best known as the former GM of the Philadelphia Eagles, the guy who talked Dick Vermeil into leaving UCLA and coming east to lead the Eagles (eventually to their first Super Bowl). But the man had the biggest heart of anyone -- he was one of the co-founders of the original Ronald McDonald House. Today, thanks to Jim's continuing efforts, there are 387 houses comforting families of sick children in 68 countries. Simply put, Jim Murray was a very special human being. He will be deeply missed, but we are all lucky for having had him in our lives. The photo below is of Jim (center) at his beloved alma mater Villanova University in 1980 with the legendary Jumbo Elliott (left) and Dr. Ted Berry (right). Here is a link to the story the last time that we wrote about Jim:

Last night was a great one for the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol. The Bill Howarth Women's Invitational in Ventnor City, NJ, long recognized as the "unofficial women's South Jersey championships" this summer became acknowledged by the South Jersey Chiefs Association as the official women's south jersey lifeguard championships. And SIC celebrated in style...powered by Molly and Maura Quinn's first ever south jersey championship in the doubles, SIC captured second place, behind champion Ventnor with 9. SIC and Avalon both finished with 7, but SIC claimed second by way of the established tiebreaker, the higher finish in the doubles -- giving SIC second place. A great job by all in very rough ocean conditions.
