The City of Sea Isle invites the community to join Mayor Leonard Desiderio in honoring and remembering our nation’s heroes during the annual Memorial Day ceremony on May 25 at 10am at Veterans Park (JFK Boulevard and Landis Avenue). The mayor, along with local and county officials and veterans, will pay tribute to the fallen through remarks and prayers recognizing those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Wreaths will be placed at the Memorial Fountain in their memory, and VFW Post 1963 will conduct a Memorial Roll Call. During the ceremony, Mayor Desiderio will dedicate Sea Isle City’s Hometown Heroes Banners, which are a living tribute to honor past and present members of the Armed Forces. Sea Isle City will proudly display these banners on the decorative light poles along JFK Boulevard, Park Road and Landis Avenue for three years, from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. Following the ceremony, Boy Scout Troop 76 will lead attendees to the JFK Boulevard beach for a tribute to the nation’s naval fallen, where members of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol will row floral arrangements beyond the breakers and set them adrift. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Community Center, 4500 Central Ave. For more information, call 609-263-4461, Ext. 1245 or visitsicnj.com.

Sea Isle City, like so many cities world-wide, celebrated Arbor Day this past week. Mother Nature wasn't kind on the day designated as Arbor Day in SIC, Saturday, April 25. The cold blowing rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits though because the 2026 ceremony took place in the City's newest structure, The Community Center, where it was warm and dry. And that was the perfect place to tell the City's story about the celebration of the preservation of two trees on the Center's tract. The two trees were initially marked for removal prior to construction. Those plans were changed as people learned that one tree had been planted in 1976 by SIC School students at the time, to celebrate the bicentennial. The second tree was planted in May 1995 by SIC School students to memorialize children whose lives were lost in the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995. Kudos to SIC for preserving some of the town's memories and local history while preserving two thriving trees on Arbor Day 2026. Read the full, heart-warming story in the June issue of the Sea Isle Times, which will publish in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

What an amazing day for a run! Especially considering that last Saturday temperatures in SIC were about 10 degrees. Today the runners and walkers filled town for the 18th Annual Mike’s Seafood Run Walk for Autism. Runners were greeted by 42-degree temperatures, calm winds and sunny skies. Gobi Thurairajah (848) of Egg Harbor Twp. was the overall winner in an event and course record time of 15:01.43. Alex Ermold (313) of Reading, PA finished second among men while Michael Carolan (954) of Philadelphia finished third. In the women's division Marisa Deichert (1049) of Sea Isle City won in a time of 18:50.34, Corinne Conley (209) of Egg Harbor Twp was second and Anabel Schaal (782)of Penns Grove, NJ was third. And what's a Sea Isle City event without an appearance by Jason Kelce and his wonderful family. - Jason was on hand to compete and address the crowd. Another amazing event by the Monicettis and the crew from Mike's Seafood. Thanks for kicking of the 2026 season Mike!
