Who should get to help write the rules governing how college athletes make money?

The Senate moved the Protect College Sports Act another step forward with a 74–24 procedural vote to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed. It was not final passage, but it moved Congress closer to debating legislation that could shape national rules around NIL, transfers, recruiting and athlete representation.

My latest Yahoo Creators analysis looks at the part of the debate that matters beyond the vote count: athletes would receive formal voting representation on specified governing bodies, while the larger question of independent bargaining power remains unresolved.

So what should meaningful athlete representation look like when the rules affect compensation, transfers, eligibility and recruiting?

Chef Nina Compton's mother asked her not to compete on Top Chef. She said it would be too stressful to watch.

Nina almost stepped away from the opportunity because of it — until she realized she might not get the chance again.

She did the show. To protect her mom, she told her the outcome months before the finale aired: "I didn't win, just so you know." Her mom's answer: "I'm fine as long as you're fine."

What neither of them expected was what St. Lucia would do. The government shut down the main square in the capital, Castries, and projected the finale for the entire country. People wore shirts with her name and face on them.

When the result aired, the island was heartbroken for her — so much so that Tom Colicchio reportedly still can't live it down there.

I thought spending 24 hours with Serigne Mbaye would mostly be about Dakar NOLA.

I was wrong. For the newest episode of On Our Way , I gave Serigne the entire day. He picked where we went, what we ate and who I met.

One of the places he wanted me to see was Chicken’s Kitchen.

And honestly, that stop told me a lot about him.

You can take the chef out of his own restaurant, but apparently you can’t stop him from paying attention to the food. We got into the rice, what makes a plate work and all the little things chefs seem incapable of ignoring even when they’re supposed to just be eating.

That’s what I’m enjoying about 24HRS.

I’m not asking someone for a list of their favorite places. I’m giving them the day and seeing where we actually end up.

This time it took us from Dakar to Chicken’s Kitchen and a side of Serigne I probably wouldn’t have gotten sitting across from him for another interview.
