One-Legged Aviation

One-Legged Aviation Retired Army MSG | A&P | One leg. One shed. Many airplanes. Welcome to Hangar 2030 Today, I’m still chasing flight — just in a different way.
(2)

I’m Brandon — a retired Army Master Sergeant, A&P mechanic, amputee, and lifelong aviation enthusiast. I spent 20 years maintaining helicopters and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in the military. After losing my leg in Iraq in 2007, I made the decision to keep serving, keep leading, and never quit. I grew up in Cameron Park Airpark, a fly-in community in California, where planes taxied down the s

treets and aviation was just part of everyday life. My dad was a pilot, my brother’s a pilot, and I grew up around legends — including Julie Clark. I fly powered paragliders, build and fly RC aircraft, and I’m about to start my biggest personal project yet: building a Zenith 750 Super Duty in a 20x30 tin shed at Hazel Green Airport — I call it Hangar 2030. My goal is to fly my own plane by April 22, 2027 — the 20-year anniversary of my injury — and earn my Private Pilot License. This page is about the journey. It’s about resilience, problem-solving, aviation, and refusing to let a missing leg ground your passion. If you're into airplanes, RC, powered paragliding, veteran grit, or just watching a guy figure it out in real time — welcome aboard.

From Soldier to Airshow Performer. Proud of my buddy Charlie and everything he’s built. Just ordered my shirt to support a fellow veteran chasing his dream. If you haven’t already, check out Charlie Morris Airshows, give his page a follow, and take a look at the new merch. 🇺🇸✈️

Drove past this OH-58 Kiowa hundreds of times and finally stopped to take a closer look. I spent the first part of my Army career working on Kiowas, so climbing back inside one brought back a lot of memories.

Did anyone here ever work on or fly 60018?

Tuesday, June 16, head out to the Rocket City Trash Pandas Dog Days game and bring your dog with you! 🐾⚾️

While you’re there, stop by and meet the team from Sartec K-9 Unit, Search and Rescue. These volunteers and their dogs spend countless hours training to help find missing people when they’re needed most.

I’ve had the opportunity to help with some of their training, and it’s incredible to watch these dogs work. SARTEC is a great organization made up of dedicated volunteers and some amazing canines who are always ready to answer the call when needed.

Come meet the team, meet the dogs, and show them some support! 🐕‍🦺🐾

⚾🐾 Come See Us at the Rocket City Trash Pandas Game! 🐾⚾

Join us on Tuesday, June 16, for Tito's Tail Waggin' Tuesday with the Rocket City Trash Pandas! We're excited to share that SARTEC K-9 Unit Search and Rescue Team has once again been invited to participate in this fun community event.

Last year, SARTEC K-9 Unit was honored to be one of the local volunteer organizations selected to receive donations collected during Tail Waggin' Tuesday, and we're grateful for the opportunity to return this season.

Bring your four-legged best friend to the ballpark! Dogs are welcome to enjoy the game alongside their humans in Sections 1 and 2 or on the grass berm. While dogs do not need a ticket, a suggested $1 donation per dog is collected at entry, with proceeds benefiting local animal-focused nonprofit organizations.

Stop by and say hello to our team, learn more about what we do, and meet some of our K9 partners!

Can't make it to the game but still want to support SARTEC? There are several ways to help:

🐾 Volunteer as a "hider" during our K9 search exercises
🐾 Share this post to help spread the word
🐾 Support our mission with a donation through our website at https://sarteck-9.org

Your support helps us provide essential personal protective equipment and professional training opportunities that keep our volunteers and K9 teams prepared to respond safely and effectively when called upon.

We hope to see you at the ballpark!

No airplane work this week. Just traveling for work in southern Georgia.

Had the chance to spend some time with these little guys this morning and learn a little about the operation. 🐑

Pretty cool experience and definitely not how I expected to start my day.

Shout out to the farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers who do this every day.

After about a month of getting this old hangar cleaned up and ready, it was finally time to move the Super Duty into its new home.

This is the new home of One-Legged Aviation and where the Zenith will finish coming to life.

Time to get back to the build. ✈️🇺🇸

I don't think I've worked on the Zenith in over a month.

Between work travel and getting this hangar ready, the airplane has been sitting patiently waiting for me to get back to it.

But I think the hangar is finally ready.

Tomorrow, the Zenith moves in.

I can't thank everyone enough who has helped along the way. From clearing trees and cleaning years of neglect, to running electrical, hanging lights, moving equipment, and lending a hand whenever I needed it, this place wouldn't look like it does today without you.

Now it's time to get back to building.

One step closer to April 22, 2027.
