My daughter is a really picky eater and will NOT eat if it’s not what she likes. Today, I sent her in with chicken nuggets and rice in her thermos, heart shaped strawberries and a treat. She ate the whole thing.

I’m saying…and not because it’s survival. It’s also going to show us the homogeneous food super market chains “let’s all eat the most calories in the fastest time,” has got to go.

I love growing my own food. For so many reasons. Not only is it therapeutic, but it’s the freedom to eat things outside of the homogeneous food market that streamlines this country. I can grow and eat what I choose, so long as my climate is decent enough. In 7b, we get a decent growing season here. I intend on making the most of it. I wanted to try Cajun Blackeyed Pea Soup and I wanted to grow the ingredients. The inspo came from The Seasonal Homestead. So, I grew cowpeas and to my surprise, a very decent yield in such a small space. And, cowpeas are a great cover crop as they provide a lot of nitrogen to the soil. Next year, I plan on growing even more.

So far, I’ve harvested so many cucumbers and preserves enough pickles to last me well through the year. I’m going to pick the last of them tomorrow and pull them out and plant peas in their place. I’m still harvesting my tomatoes, coring and scoring them and throwing them in freezer bags. Once I have them all, I will do a sauce preservation.
