🔥Mark your calendars for chrome, smoke, steaks, and one incredible cause … Cars & Carnivores is just around the corner! 🚘

On Saturday, June 6, Downtown Wake Forest will fill with polished chrome, rumbling engines, smoky grills, steak competition excitement, food trucks, music, and packed streets full of people soaking it all in. It’s the kind of event where you come for a little while and end up staying all day.

Whether you’re a car enthusiast, a foodie, or just looking for a fun day out with family and friends, Cars & Carnivores has quickly become one of Wake Forest’s favorite summer traditions – and once you experience it, you’ll understand why.

But what makes this event even more meaningful is the purpose behind it. In the Spring + Summer issue of CIRCA Magazine, don’t miss “Chrome and Fire – And the Second Chances Behind Them” by Brad Walker of the Wake Forest Rotary Club, where he shares how this event helps pay off past-due medical debts for local cancer patients and families right here in our community.

So while the cars and steaks may bring people downtown, the mission behind the event is what really makes it extra special.

So make plans to come out, support and enjoy this great event, read the story behind it all, and see firsthand why Cars & Carnivores has become such a meaningful part of the Wake Forest community.

🔥 Attend the event on Saturday, June 6

What’s actually happening inside a loaf of sourdough ... and why does it matter?

In "Sourdough Rediscovered," Sabrina Key, the heart behind The Unexpected Gardener and the founder of the Wake Forest Local Food Collaborative and the 501(c)(3) non-profit Restoration Farm, takes a close look at the science and the process behind it. Through slow fermentation, wild yeast and beneficial bacteria begin breaking down starches and gluten before the bread is even baked - changing not just the flavor, but how the body processes it. The result is bread that many find easier to digest, with more accessible nutrients and a depth of flavor that simply can’t be rushed.

She also walks through the rhythm of making it - from feeding a starter to stretch-and-folds, long fermentation, and baking in a Dutch oven - breaking it down in a way that feels approachable if you’ve ever wanted to try. Her delicious rustic sourdough recipe is also included, with clear steps you can follow right at home in your own kitchen! 🥖

If you’ve been curious about sourdough, this is a great place to start!

Skip the board ... and serve your tapas straight from the bag!

In our Spring + Summer issue, "Unexpected Tapas - Spanish Flavors, Served Straight From the Bag" takes a simple idea and turns it into something surprisingly fun - layering sturdy potato chips with Spanish favorites like mussels in escabeche, anchovies, jamón, chorizo, aged cheeses, olives, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Written by Adriana Pinto-Lista of Canaria Boutique (located inside The Cotton Company in Downtown Wake Forest), it’s a relaxed, slightly messy, and completely satisfying way to bring bold flavor to casual gatherings - perfect for warm spring afternoons, easy summer evenings, and sharing with friends.
