WAKE FOREST LOCAL FOOD COLLABORATIVE

We’re excited to welcome Wake Forest Local Food Collaborative to CIRCA – an incredible local resource helping families connect with high-quality, locally sourced food right here in our community.

What started in 2022 as a small neighborhood effort has grown into a network of more than 1,700 families, all supporting a shared mission – making it easier to access better food while supporting local farmers and producers. Through the collaborative, you’ll find everything from grass-fed beef and pastured pork to fresh eggs, raw milk, local honey, organic produce, sourdough and gluten-free baked goods, elderberry syrup, and small-batch herbal products. 🥕🥖🍯

The process is simple and intentional … you order directly from the farmers, pay them directly, and pick everything up in one convenient location, while also having the opportunity to meet the people who raised and made your food.

📍 Pickups take place on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month from 4:00–5:00 PM at the Vitality Chiropractic parking lot, located at 616 Dr. Calvin Jones Highway in Wake Forest. (When you stop by, be sure to tell them you found them in CIRCA!)

If you’ve been thinking about making the switch, or simply want to add fresher, more intentional options to your routine, this is a great place to start. 🔥Mark your calendars for chrome, smoke, steaks, and one incredible cause … Cars & Carnivores is just around the corner! 🚘

On Saturday, June 6, Downtown Wake Forest will fill with polished chrome, rumbling engines, smoky grills, steak competition excitement, food trucks, music, and packed streets full of people soaking it all in. It’s the kind of event where you come for a little while and end up staying all day.

Whether you’re a car enthusiast, a foodie, or just looking for a fun day out with family and friends, Cars & Carnivores has quickly become one of Wake Forest’s favorite summer traditions – and once you experience it, you’ll understand why.

But what makes this event even more meaningful is the purpose behind it. In the Spring + Summer issue of CIRCA Magazine, don’t miss “Chrome and Fire – And the Second Chances Behind Them” by Brad Walker of the Wake Forest Rotary Club, where he shares how this event helps pay off past-due medical debts for local cancer patients and families right here in our community.

So while the cars and steaks may bring people downtown, the mission behind the event is what really makes it extra special.

So make plans to come out, support and enjoy this great event, read the story behind it all, and see firsthand why Cars & Carnivores has become such a meaningful part of the Wake Forest community.

What’s actually happening inside a loaf of sourdough ... and why does it matter?

In "Sourdough Rediscovered," Sabrina Key, the heart behind The Unexpected Gardener and the founder of the Wake Forest Local Food Collaborative and the 501(c)(3) non-profit Restoration Farm, takes a close look at the science and the process behind it. Through slow fermentation, wild yeast and beneficial bacteria begin breaking down starches and gluten before the bread is even baked - changing not just the flavor, but how the body processes it. The result is bread that many find easier to digest, with more accessible nutrients and a depth of flavor that simply can’t be rushed.

She also walks through the rhythm of making it - from feeding a starter to stretch-and-folds, long fermentation, and baking in a Dutch oven - breaking it down in a way that feels approachable if you’ve ever wanted to try. Her delicious rustic sourdough recipe is also included, with clear steps you can follow right at home in your own kitchen! 🥖

If you’ve been curious about sourdough, this is a great place to start!
