The city government of Seal Beach issued the following statement on Wednesday, Oct. 1, after the Sun’s print deadline:
In light of recent acts of political violence across the nation, the city of Seal Beach is issuing this statement to reaffirm our commitment to safety, civility, and respectful civic engagement. These troubling incidents remind us that violence and intimidation undermine the very foundation of democracy and threaten the well-being of communities everywhere.
Seal Beach condemns political violence in all its forms. Our city is dedicated to creating an environment where differences of opinion can be expressed peacefully, where dialogue replaces division, and where respect guides even our most difficult conversations. Constructive civic engagement requires civility, empathy, and a willingness to listen, and we call on our community to uphold these values.
The City will continue working with law enforcement and community partners to protect public safety and ensure that residents, visitors, and public officials feel secure when participating in civic life. Public safety is a shared responsibility, and together we can safeguard the values of openness and mutual respect that define Seal Beach.
“Seal Beach is a city built on respect, civility, and community. We may not always agree, but we can always choose to treat one another with dignity and compassion. Political violence has no place in our city or in our country. Together, let us commit to dialogue over division and unity over hostility,” stated Lisa Landau, mayor of Seal Beach.
The city of Seal Beach calls on all residents to join us in rejecting violence and embracing civility as the path forward. By working together, we can strengthen the bonds of community and ensure that our city remains a safe, respectful, and inclusive place for all.
