The Seaside Signal is owned and published by EO Media Group, and is located in north Seaside at 1555 N. Roosevelt Dr., also known as U.S. Highway 101, about a mile north of the Seaside Factory Outlet Mall. The Signal is published every other week on Thursdays and serves the Seaside and Gearhart communities. Shayna Olson called 911 at 9:06 a.m. on Saturday to report an active shooter situation at the Columbia Memorial Hospital and Oregon Health & Science University Knight Cancer Collaborative. There was no shooter, though. Olson, whose role in the scenario was to act as a victim, initiated a planned drill for local emergency services, including the Astoria Police Department, Astoria Fire Department, Medix Ambulance Service, Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office and the Lewis & Clark Volunteer Fire Department.

Along docks, jetties and waterfront haul-outs across the North Coast, the familiar groups of California sea lions that spent months crowding onto floating platforms and pilings have mostly disappeared. By late June and early July, most of the large males that wintered and fed along Oregon’s coast begin a journey of more than 1,000 miles south to the breeding grounds off Southern California.
