Community Voices Inspiring Action

The Pathways To Progress Alliance (PPA), a community-based nonprofit serving immigrant and refugee families across South Seattle and South King County, hosted a meaningful community gathering this evening at Highline College

The event brought together families, community leaders, educators, youth, elders, professionals, businesses, donors, and elected officials for an evening focused on empowerment, collaboration, and cultural celebration.

The gathering had three important goals:

• To honor the families and community members whose voices, stories, and lived experiences are at the heart of PPA's mission.

• To celebrate the leadership, growth, and achievements demonstrated by youth and families throughout the community.

• To officially unveil the new Cultural Parenting Toolkit , a valuable resource developed by to progress Alliances to support Somali and Oromo families, as well as childcare providers, in preserving cultural values while strengthening parenting practices.

Most importantly, the events emphasized a shared commitment to transforming community voices into community action, building stronger partnerships and creating lasting opportunities for future generations.

Distinguished guests in attendance included:

* Mohamed Egal, Mayor of SeaTac
* Kshama Sawant, former Seattle City Councilmember
* David Hackney, Washington State Representative
* Rebecca Saldaña, Washington State Senator
* Mia Gregerson, Washington State Representative
* Abdi Jama, Special Adviser to the Mayor of Seattle
* Gloria Melon, District Representative for Congressman Adam Smith

The event reflected the power of unity, inclusion, and community leadership, reaffirming that meaningful progress begins when every voice is heard and every family has the opportunity to thrive.

“Seattle belongs to everyone , regardless of race, color, or religion.” The Mayor emphasized unity, inclusivity, and support for immigrant communities, while also expressing condolences for the victims of the tragic attack on the Muslim community in San Diego.

Her remarks came during the Eid prayer at the Seattle Convention Center, organized annually by Islamic Idris Mosque . She ended by wishing Muslims in Seattle and around the world: Eid Mubarak.
