Odd Lots just released an episode on "The Economics of the AI Boom, Who Is Actually Paying for All of This?"
I haven't been able to stop thinking about the numbers.

The capital being deployed into AI infrastructure right now is historically unprecedented. And the revenue being generated against it is a fraction of what would justify the investment under any normal model. We've seen this shape before. The question isn't whether the boom is real. It's who survives when the math gets rebalanced.

What Joe and Tracy do better than anyone is follow the money without the hype. And what this episode makes clear is that the winners in AI won't necessarily be the companies building the most impressive technology. They'll be the companies that figured out the unit economics before the funding cycle turned.

We built a simple internal test for every AI initiative we evaluate: what does it cost per decision, what's the decision worth, and when does the math work at scale? We kill projects that can't answer that in one page. The constraint has saved us from a lot of expensive enthusiasm.

The AI wave is real. The economics of who profits from it are still being written.

What's the unit economic model behind the AI investment your company is making right now?

Paid tools hide the real cost behind convenience. 🛑

Every provider wants you locked into their billing. You pay per seat, per token, per provider, and you never compare. But one free repo just replaced $200/mo in AI subscriptions. The team didn't buy more API credits; they routed around the bill entirely, and it still worked.

Instead of managing separate bills, they used OmniRoute—a free gateway routing across 237+ providers.

Here is how this architecture wins:

Auto-fallback switches providers when one hits a limit.

Compression shrinks requests before they hit the model.

This multi-tool setup plugs directly into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Copilot.

It runs locally with one command and zero cloud dependency.

A $0/mo stack with 50 free providers beats a $200/mo stack with one. Route smart. Pay nothing. Ship anyway.

Swipe through the carousel to see how this local AI gateway works. 👉

Hitting massive revenue is a milestone.

Accelerating growth at scale is a masterclass. ☁️

Don't let size become an excuse for stagnation. As shown in Microsoft Azure's growth trajectory, climbing from ~$71 billion in FY2025 to over $100 billion in FY2026 (+41% Y/Y), the real winners don't slow down as they get bigger, they leverage their scale to capture even more market share and define the next era of tech.

The formula is simple:

1️⃣ Innovate.
2️⃣ Capture.
3️⃣ Scale.
4️⃣ Dominate.

You don't reach market leadership by slowing down at the top, but by compounding your momentum to reach new heights. Keep scaling. 🚀

Planet Money just put out an episode on "What the Economics of AI Actually Look Like for Small Businesses."
I've been thinking about this one for days.

We work with small and mid-size businesses constantly. The macro narrative on AI is written by and for enterprise and VC-backed startups. The reality for a 15-person professional services firm, a regional manufacturer, or a local retailer is completely different. The tools aren't always a fit. The ROI isn't always obvious. The cost of getting it wrong isn't theoretical.

What the episode surfaces — and NPR's economic lens is genuinely underrated for this — is that AI productivity gains are wildly uneven across business size, sector, and existing tech infrastructure. The average masks a distribution that's doing real damage to the narrative that "everyone benefits."

We've started doing an honest AI readiness assessment before recommending any tool to a client. Not "can you use this?" but "do you have the process discipline and data hygiene to make this compound rather than create noise?" The honest answer is more often no than the industry wants to admit.

AI ROI isn't uniformly distributed. And pretending it is doesn't help the businesses that need the most honest advice.

What's the most honest thing you've told a client or colleague about what AI won't do for them?

Stop assuming the best AI models will always be open and cheap. 🛑

There is a massive myth in the industry: that more powerful models automatically equal more open access. Founders believe frontier AI keeps getting cheaper and easier to reach. They assume anyone can just sign up and start building, thinking pricing and access barely matter compared to raw model quality.

This thinking leaves teams stuck when access rules change overnight.

Why? Because July 2026 proved the exact opposite. Two forces are reshaping who gets to build. Top systems are being gated more carefully than before through ID checks, vetted previews, and credits-based billing.

The smart move isn't waiting for frontier models; the real opportunity is in the gap.

Mid-tier models are closing in on flagship performance for a fraction of the cost.

Claude Sonnet 5 brought agent-style coding and workflow use into everyday business work.

Pace, an insurance tech firm, successfully ran Sonnet 5 on live systems for intake and claims setup.

Intro pricing windows are short, so the smart move is piloting now, not waiting.

Playing defense protects your current position.

Playing offense builds your empire. 🏰

Don't let the comfort of a healthy balance sheet stop you from making the necessary leaps. Chart, the $725 billion AI arms race is accelerating. By committing a combined $725 billion to capital expenditure in 2026, a massive 77% increase from $410 billion in 2025, titans like Google ($205B), Amazon ($200B), Microsoft ($190B), and Meta ($130B) are proving that true market leaders don't just ride the wave; they spend aggressively to own the ocean.

The formula is simple:

1️⃣ Vision.
2️⃣ Allocate.
3️⃣ Build.
4️⃣ Scale.

You don't secure the future by hoarding your resources, but by deploying them boldly into the next frontier. Keep investing. 🚀

Darknet Diaries just dropped an episode on "How AI Is Changing the Threat Landscape — and Why Most Companies Aren't Ready."
I've been sitting with the implications ever since.

We're seeing it directly with clients. AI has made social engineering attacks almost indistinguishable from legitimate communications. Phishing emails that used to be caught by grammar and tone now read like your CFO wrote them. Deepfake voice calls are clearing 5-figure wire transfers. The attack surface didn't just expand. It became intelligent.

What Jack gets right — and no business podcast is covering this at this depth — is that the threat isn't just technical. It's organizational. The people most likely to get compromised are the ones who were trained on yesterday's threat model and haven't been retrained for an AI-augmented adversary.

We updated our internal security training 6 months ago with one specific addition: "If a request feels right but slightly urgent and comes from a known contact, that's exactly when to slow down." AI attacks are optimized for exactly that cognitive shortcut. Training against instinct is hard. It's the only thing that works.

AI is making your product better and your attack surface worse at the same time. Most security budgets are still calibrated for the old world.

When did your team last update its threat model to include AI-enhanced attacks?

For years, the tech industry convinced us that building software required a $15,000 bootcamp or a Computer Science degree. 🛑

That gatekeeping is officially over. The tools that used to be locked behind elite credentials and expensive courses are now sitting right in your web browser, free to try.

You don't need a technical co-founder, and you don't need to learn to code. You just need to be able to describe what you want in plain English.

The new development cycle is entirely jargon-free and takes exactly four steps:

Step 1: Open the AI App Builder in your browser.

Step 2: Describe your idea in plain English.

Step 3: Click build and wait 90 seconds.

Step 4: Click deploy and your app goes live on the internet.

No opening a terminal. No running npm install. No desperately searching Stack Overflow for bug fixes. Just your idea, in your own words, turned into a live product.

Swipe through to see how to turn 5 years of waiting into shipping this weekend. 👉

steady core keeps you profitable.

Accelerating new growth engines makes you unstoppable. 📊

Don't rely solely on your legacy products to drive your future. Looking at Google's Q2 2026 consolidated financial summary, while Search remains the massive revenue bedrock at $63.3 billion, it's the hyper-growth in Google Cloud, skyrocketing by 82% year-over-year to $24.8 billion, that proves how crucial it is to cultivate fast-growing expansion plays alongside your core business. Google's total revenue hit $119.8 billion, proving that true market leaders relentlessly fund their next evolution.

The formula is simple:

1️⃣ Stabilize.
2️⃣ Expand.
3️⃣ Accelerate.
4️⃣ Scale.

You don't just protect what made you successful, you relentlessly build the engines that will fuel your next giant leap. Keep scaling. 🚀

The Ramsey Show just tackled "What AI Actually Means for Your Career and Financial Future."
I've been thinking about the simplicity of the message ever since.

Dave's audience isn't engineers or VCs. They're everyday workers — nurses, teachers, salespeople, small business owners — and the questions he's getting about AI are the most honest ones I've heard. "Will my job exist in 5 years?" "Should I learn to code?" "Is my savings plan still realistic if my industry changes overnight?"

What the episode captures that the tech world consistently misses: the AI conversation has been dominated by people who will benefit from AI regardless of what happens. The people asking the hardest questions are the ones with the least margin for error.

We've started being much more intentional about who we hire and how we communicate about AI internally because of this lens. Not everyone on your team is a software engineer with options. Some of them are one reorg away from a hard situation. Clarity and honesty with them isn't optional.

The most sophisticated AI strategy in the world fails if the humans executing it don't trust the people leading it.

How transparent are you being with your whole team — not just your tech team — about what AI means for their roles?
