17,000 jobs gone in a single night. 📉 Spirit Airlines’ shutdown isn't just about a "failed budget airline"—it's a failure of regulatory logic.

Back in 2024, blocking the JetBlue merger was celebrated as a "win for flyers," but the "off-ramp" was actually a wall. Now, with 1 in 33 domestic miles suddenly deleted, expect fares to jump 15–25% on these routes by 2027. Sometimes, blocking a merger doesn't save competition; it just deletes the competitor.

According to ICAO, the International Standard Atmosphere (ISA) provides a global baseline at mean sea level (MSL) defined as:

Temperature: +15°C (288.15 K)

Pressure: 1013.25 hPa or 29.92 inHg

Air Density: 1.225 kg/m³

These values are the "universal yardstick" used by pilots and engineers to calculate aircraft performance, plan fuel, and calibrate altimeters worldwide.

The Standard Lapse Rate
In the troposphere (from sea level up to 36,000 ft), the air cools down at a predictable rate as you climb:

Drop of ≈ 2°C for every 1,000 feet (precisely 1.98°C).

Quick Example:
At 5,000 ft, the air is roughly 10°C colder than at the ground. If the standard sea level temperature is +15°C, it will be +5°C at that altitude.

Big engines, big stats… and yep, you still have to memorize them all!

1. GE90 Series (General Electric)
Models: GE90-76B to -115B
Thrust: 76,000 to 127,900 lbs
The GE90-115B is the heavyweight champ—still the strongest commercial engine out there.
Found on: 777-200LR, 777-300ER, 777F

2. Trent 800 Series (Rolls-Royce)
Models: Trent 875 to 895
Thrust: 75,000 to 95,000 lbs
A classic, reliable choice for the standard 777-200 and 777-300.

3. PW4000 Series (Pratt & Whitney)
Models: PW4074 to 4098
Thrust: 74,000 to 98,000 lbs
Another solid option powering many 777-200s and 300s.

One aircraft… three different ways to get you in the air!

This Boeing 747SP stands as the most compact and unique version of the 747 series. Developed in the mid-70s to travel greater distances at higher speeds, it was built to handle non-stop missions like New York to Tokyo.
