‘Merica runs on Duncan, but Hexxus Records’ official studio runs on Happy Hippo herbal energy products and Nic Cage movie breaks. Much like Cage’s character in this scene from Bad Lieutenant Port of Call: New Orleans, this engineer is running on about one hour of sleep in the past three days. But unlike Mr. Cage, I’m not physically threatening elderly women, thanks to the calming yet energizing effects of HH’s natural - Thanks Happy Hippo!

“Saturday Cloud” is probably the last, best song I wrote (in my opinion), where the production centers primarily on the fingerpicked acoustic guitar parts and layered vocals, with the exception of some more atmospheric guitar feedback and tremolo-synth pads all mixed low enough to
provide a near-subliminal effect
that adds a drony, damp, sense of bittersweet atmosphere to the track. It’s an older song than most that are still in my repertoire, but it’s been a favorite of mine over the years. As it’s pleasant to perform with and has physically held up great over he years. The hazy production, subtle yet robust guitar work, and the way this all meshes with the surreal content and subdued delivery of the verses (With the help of some decent songwriting😉 and a relaxed, melodic vocal approach, “Saturday Cloud” has been a long term favorite of mine despite never being released. In my mind it embodies the vibe of a mild, drizzly, relaxing weekend in the Pacific Northwest.💜👻💜

“Jellystone” — an ambient piece

I’ve teased parts of this for different stories but here it finally is, fully realized. All footage is from Gardiner, MT and also in Yellowstone park (I’ve known I was gonna use these images for a while, finally got around to doing it). Gardiner is located on the East end of what’s called Paradise Valley—home of John Mayer—and it’s a very small town with access to the Park’s Northernmost entrance. It’s also the home of my grandpa, who lives in a house up on a tall ridge overlooking the town. Elk and Bison walk through his yard as they leave the park in search of grazing land. The landscape is beautiful and I’ve been in love with it ever since I first visited. Dedicated to my grandad, the town of Gardiner, and the beautiful (mostly) state of Montana.
