We can learn from plants how to cultivate health, resilience, and overall wellbeing in our daily lives. This calendar is part of Plant Teachings for Growing Social-Emotional Skills—a multimedia toolkit that explores wellness practices grounded in the land and Coast Salish culture. The Plant Teachings Toolkit includes the calendar, a coloring book, pocket-sized cards, wall posters, a journal, and a full-color book.
Plants featured in this year’s calendar include: Cottonwood, Willow, Nettle, Salmonberry, Rose, Strawberry, Fireweed, Yarrow, Dandelion, Licorice Fern, Hemlock, Douglas Fir.

As a reminder, we offer volume discounts to Tribal entities and educational organizations.

Last night we had the unique opportunity to share our books and educational resources by Indigenous authors and for Indigenous communities at Netse Mot: One Heart, One Mind Gathering, presented by Children of the Setting Sun Productions and NCAI.

One People Gathering is an inclusive gathering where people from all backgrounds can engage with and learn from Indigenous voices. This event is more than just a celebration; it’s a movement toward healing, unity, and mutual understanding. “Netse Mot” is a Coast Salish phrase meaning “One heart, one mind” and the idea behind “One People” emphasizes unity among all individuals.

It was wonderful to meet and engage with so many wonderful people! Special thanks to author Julian Brave Noisecat for popping by our table to sign copies of We Survived the Night.

We’re so grateful to everyone who stopped by our Salmonberry booth at the Native Grown & Gathered Food Expo hosted by earlier this month. It was truly an honor to be part of such a vibrant gathering celebrating Native food systems and Tribal Food Sovereignty, and to connect with so many growers, cooks, foragers, artists, and advocates working to nourish your communities and the land.

Thank you for the conversations, the inspiration, and the shared commitment to learning from the land and each other. We look forward to staying connected and continuing this important work together.

Fall in the PNW is the perfect time to explore tide pools! We have a brand new line of waterproof Saltwater Beach Identification Cards. Learn more about Bladderwack, the brown seaweed that grows on rocks in the intertidal zone, or the purple Urchins that look like pin cushions and use their spines to help them move.

These multilingual field guide cards feature 23 common plant and animal species of the saltwater beaches of the Pacific Northwest! The cards include photos, key characteristics, and fun facts about each species, as well as resources for tending the ecosystem health of shorelines, and bibliography. Names for each plant and animal appear in English, Latin, and Northern Lushootseed.

Thank you to everyone who came out for last night’s poetry reading with Charles Finn, Mark Gibbons and Sheryl Noethe. It was a lovely way to celebrate the release of Charles Finn’s new title, A MOUNTAIN’S IDEA OF TIME at Fact & Fiction Books.

Hearing Mark Gibbons, Sheryl Noethe and Charles Finn read their stunning poetry was such a treat!
