I made this one for my kids.
Not for a client. Not for a brand. For the two people in my house who are going to grow up asking where they come from, and I wanted to have something better than "I don't know" to hand them.
TRIBE is 14 minutes. A young Black soldier in Vietnam in 1968, and the village his people came from a century before that. Elias on one side, Amara on the other, and a family holding both ends of the rope. I built every frame of it myself, no crew, on nights after the kids went to bed.
This clip is 60 seconds. It's the look, not the story. The story is the part that matters. There's a dining room table in it that's going to feel like somebody's house you've been in. There's a river. There's a welcome home that I've watched more times than I can count and the ending still gets me.
If you're one of the folks who raised me, prayed for me, or ever asked "what are you working on now," this is what I was working on. Watch the whole thing. Sit your kids down for it. Then tell me which part stayed with you.
