Girl Noise Press turns 4 this week.

I started the press in 2021 while figuring out what to do with my manuscript for Suburban Legend. Traditional publishing seemed like the dream, but deep down, I knew what felt true to me as a writer and creative.

I came up bopping around the Seattle DIY underground music scene. In college, I found Riot Grrrl and Rookie Mag. DIY has always been part of my creative DNA — the mode that comes most natural to me.

I knew Suburban Legend was weird — in form, in content — and probably not a fit for most publishers. I also knew I’m not a prolific writer. What I wanted was a home for my weird girl writing — and a space to champion the beautiful, strange work of others like me.

Growth over the last four years has been slow, but steady — and I can definitely feel the impact. I’m so thankful for everyone who’s reached out, wanted to collaborate, trusted me with their work, or gushed over our table at events.

And I still can’t believe how many cool girls ask if they can intern or work with me. The press is still tiny (it’s literally just me in my attic), and I don’t have the infrastructure for that yet — but it means the world that you believe in this.

Submissions open next month and we can’t wait to see what you’ve been working on!

These are some tips you help you get your manuscripts ready to submit. We also have more in-depth guidelines on our website.

We’re not looking for perfection, but we do want manuscripts that feel as complete and polished as you can get them. Most importantly, we’re looking for voice, vision, and writing that makes us feel something.
