On October 1, 2017, the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, became the site of the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history.
A gunman opened fire from a 32nd-floor suite at the adjacent Mandalay Bay Resort, raining down more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition using rifles modified with bump stocks to achieve rapid fire.
The attack targeted a crowd of roughly 22,000 outdoor concertgoers during a performance by country star Jason Aldean, resulting in 60 fatalities and leaving more than 800 people injured from gunfire and the ensuing panic.
The perpetrator committed su***de before police breached his room, and despite an exhaustive investigation, an official motive was never determined.
