On the very first day of filming The Matrix in 1999, Hugo Weaving ran into a serious problem.
He suffered a leg injury that was later diagnosed as a polyp, which required surgery.
For a short time, the situation was so uncertain that the production even considered replacing him as Agent Smith.
Instead, the directors adjusted the schedule, pushing his more intense scenes to later in the shoot so he had time to recover and come back strong.
