New Larj Media Podcast Exposes the Untold Story of Gender and Race in Radiology — Larj Media

There’s something about bearing witness to someone else’s story.

With stories of personal injustice, the act of listening and, conversely, the act of being heard can be a powerful catalyst for change. That’s why we made the podcast, Tunnel of Truth with Rachel Gerson, MD.

If you’re a part of the radiology community, we hope you’ll take a listen and bear witness to these stories. And if you have a story to tell, we’d like to invite you to be heard. Please contact tunneloftruth.com. Your story can be told anonymously if you like.

From the podcast production team at Larj Media: The Tunnel of Truth is a new podcast that explores gender, race and the experience of underrepresented physicians in radiology.

You’ll see posts about his su***de all day long.

Mostly from people who have no idea what depression feels like and how living with depression is not a choice, but something that is ingrained in our beings.

They’ll (with all the right intentions) say that you should “check in” on people you love, or those who may be depressed.

They’ll talk about how sad it is that he took his life and how life is so short and precious.

They talk about how on the surface he “had it all“ and wonder how could someone like that be so unhappy.

They’ll look at pictures of him and his family and wonder how someone with such a ‘beautiful life’ could do this.

And they will absolutely mean every word. They may even cry. They may legitimately be sad.

But it’s impossible for someone who isn’t depressed to truly understand what it’s like…

To be on the verge of crying for absolutely no reason at any given moment

To be in the middle of something beautiful, and be overwhelmed by negative thoughts

To have the constant chatter of negativity and pessimism, when there’s absolutely no reason to

To smile and be happy with every fiber of your being, and then the next moment, be ready to end at all.

So yes… Absolutely check in on those you love. Regardless of whether or not, they’re depressed.

They’ll love hearing from you.

But at the end of the day, when you suffer from depression, it’s an every day battle that only the person suffering from it can decide whether or not it’s a war they can win.

And hopefully those who are playing this loser-takes-all game, continue the fight.

The Making of Nobody Should Believe Me

When we teamed up with novelist Andrea Dunlop two years ago to make Nobody Should Believe Me, we had no idea how it would evolve. Our journey to understand the crime of Munchausen by proxy in a deeper way took us to three different states, where we recorded in hotel rooms, cars, the homes of family members, and ultimately in a rural diner in small town Idaho. Even in the final days of production we were still unsure if our mission to interview to Hope Ybarra (a woman convicted of Munchausen by proxy) would pan out!

In this bonus episode, go behind-the-scenes of Nobody Should Believe Me with producer Tina Nole and host Andrea Dunlop and get the full story of how this extraordinary series came to be!
