Happy 10th anniversary to debut release, N**e Descending!
It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years. This was our first real release as a label. So in some ways, it’s like the 10th anniversary of the label too (but in most ways it’s not). What is true is that there would be no Youth Riot today without N**e Descending. (I also wouldn’t know how to spell “descending” either.)
I love all my children (the Youth Riot releases) equally, but this is the one that holds a special place in my heart. There is some debate about whether it’s even an album with only 7 songs, but I truly believe it’s the best album of 2016. I’ve seen Versing play more than any other band, and it was an honor seeing the band celebrate the anniversary on Friday at the record release show. Very few bands stick around to play 10th anniversary shows. (For those of you feeling as nostalgic as I am, the original release show was at Cairo with Ubu Roi and Neighbors.)
If you’ve gone this whole time without listening, now is the time to do it, and pick up one of the last vinyl copies at an upcoming Versing show (and be grateful that there are still Versing shows).
Rambling aside, above are a series of mostly never-before-seen photos from that era when the record was first released. There are so many people to thank for assisting in the hand-painting and screenprinting of 300 record jackets! Most importantly, I’d like to thank Versing for supporting an unknown label back then. - Daniel
