Believin’ for Ethyn

Believin’ for Ethyn Ethyn was born with a condition called Spina Bifida.

We hope to share his story to inspire others, and also bring awareness to his condition to help others going through similar things.

It’s on me- I didn’t read the date on the flier.

I carved out time for myself. It was a meeting for parents of medically complex children. This would have been my first time attending. I dressed up, put on a brave smile, and left my house and my kids in my husbands hands.

Only to show up two weeks early.

😭😭😭

Next time I’ll use my Skylight Calendar Sidekick and have it put the correct date in, so I don’t have to mess up another date again.

I’ll give myself a little credit though, this is the first meeting/appointment that I showed up on the wrong day in the 3 years that we’ve had a medically complex kiddo.

So for now, I’ll sip on my mediocre McDonald’s coffee and sit in a parking lot, soaking up some peace and quiet for a little while before I head back home to the chaos goblins.

This video shows Ethyn in his element. He’s so HAPPY. So chill. So social. He LOVES people and playing and socializing.

Who says you have to use a treadmill in the traditional sense? 😂 And playing with papa makes it all the more fun.

Look!!!! He climbed TWO flights of stairs!

FYI- Excuse the diaper, we kept crawling out of his pants today. 😂

He climbed another set of stairs right after this all the way to the next floor. We are so proud of him.

✅ Sleep Study complete

We are now back home and ready for some real sleep. 😂

We still haven’t shared what they found on his last tests, his triple endoscopy. We are still processing all the info given to us, even though it’s been weeks. One thing is that his lungs are weaker than most, and now we are doing a sleep study to make sure he’s doing alright when he’s asleep.

But that doesn’t stop our little buddy from enjoying life! In fact, no one can tell it’s harder for him.

Pray for good test results, and that we narrow down some of this puzzle.

7 appointments.

We’re pretty tired.

1- wheelchair adjustment
2- Occupational therapy
3- In home physical therapy
4- swallow study
5- Physical therapy in another town
6- Orthopedic Surgery apppintment
7- Occupational therapy eval for a new facility

And this week we only have FOUR appointments, so we are soaking in the unscheduled time at home. Don’t mind us- just catching up on some much needed zzzzzzzz’s, because next week is another big medical week.

Why does Ethyn wear pants and socks in the pool? To protect his legs and feet! He can’t feel when he gets hurt, and if he does get hurt, we have the chance it can get infected, so we have to be proactive to hopefully prevent wounds from happening! Unfortunately the little guy did get some pressure wounds already this summer, so we are being extra precautious.
