ChangeStream Media We create digital media to advance education, health, and social justice. Powered by

Our volunteer collective's videos, photo collections, and articles amplify the messages of change makers around the globe. We partner with grassroots nonprofits, community leaders, artists, and educators to share inspiring stories and life-changing information. Most of our content is created for local communities; we’ve encouraged condom use in Honduras, taught composting skills in Tanzania, and p

romoted civic engagement in Guatemala. This local-language content reaches audiences through impromptu film festivals, art installations, re-publication in traditional media outlets, social media, and outreach by partner organizations. We also craft content aimed at global audiences so that funders, volunteers, academic institutions, and governments can support our partners. Our videos have reached hundreds of thousands of viewers, helping our partners in more than a dozen countries build awareness, reach fundraising goals, and achieve public policy changes. In our home base of Seattle, we've taught video production workshops; advised storytellers on collaborating with international change makers; and produced videos on a sliding scale for nonprofit organizations.

BORDER ANGELS has been advocating for migrants since 1986. Based in San Diego, but with chapters and volunteers worldwide, they are best known for water drops in the borderland wilderness where migrants die every year. In addition to providing humanitarian aid, they also run a migrant shelter in Tijuana, organize marches, and provide services for the undocumented community. We were moved by founder Enrique Morones’ stories and inspired by the dedication of the volunteers who give their weekends and risk border patrol harassment to save migrants' lives.

Border Kindness provides food, supplies, medical care, and legal assistance for refugees and migrants in Mexicali, Mexico. We spent a day with them this spring as part of our project, and were amazed at how they threw themselves into solving whatever problem came up, from delivering diapers to covering a child's dental work.

In Nogales, Mexico, a heroic binational team is providing free medical care to migrants waiting to cross legally into the US. Francisco "Pancho" Olachea Martin is a volunteer medic who has been providing free care for over 10 years with his nonprofit Panchito y su Christina. Just as need spiked with the arrival of refuge seekers from Central America, he happened to meet a new grassroots group from Patagonia, Arizona that was looking for a way to help with the crisis. Voices from the Border now works hand in hand with Pancho to provide the supplies he urgently needs to do this incredible work. They are currently fundraising for this project at https://www.mightycause.com/organization/Voices-From-The-Border

Our project took us over 2,000 miles along the US-Mexico border to tell the stories of change makers like Team Brownsville, Angry Tias & Abuelas Of RGV, National Butterfly Center, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, Voices from the Border, Border Kindness, BORDER ANGELS and more. Follow along on Facebook, YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/ChangeStream), or our website (https://changestreammedia.org/) where you can donate to support the sharing of important stories like these.

A 36-foot-tall border wall may soon cut the National Butterfly Center in half, threatening this vital center of biodiversity and the entire Rio Grande ecosystem. Executive Director Marianna Treviño-Wright explains the consequences of walling off American access to the Rio Grande, and shares how you can help stop the wall in this video from ChangeStream Media.

The Angry Tias & Abuelas Of RGV, Texas, formed in response to the family separation crisis of 2018, and they continue supporting migrants with deliveries of material assistance, travel help at the McAllen bus terminal, and other services as needed. We were able to accompany one of the Tias, Elisa Filippone, as she made her near-daily trip from Brownville, Texas into Mexico to deliver supplies to migrants waiting to request asylum in the United States.

Our first video from our project! Team Brownsville is a volunteer collective in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas assisting migrants on both sides of the US-Mexico border. The US policy of "metering" the entry of asylum seekers has forced thousands of migrants to camp out on the Brownsville border bridge, waiting in a lawless limbo to plead their case.

Team Brownsville member Mike Benavides helps organize daily deliveries of breakfast, dinner, medical assistance, and needed supplies to support the bodies and spirits of those trapped in this appalling bureaucratic trap. Working with Good Neighbor Settlement House, Inc., volunteers like Andrea Rudnik help migrants who have just been released from detention facilities. Asylum seekers are met at the bus station and assisted with their travel route to reunite with family and loved ones. They are also offered backpacks full of supplies, as well as a chance to visit Good Neighbor Settlement House to rest, shower, eat and get a donated set of clothes to begin the next stage of their journey to safety in the United States.

You can support Team Brownsville's efforts on their GoFundMe page: https://bit.ly/2CKIHNC

Last month Sean returned to Cambodia to follow up on the education system innovators we first profiled back in 2011 --check out our blog and video showing how a rural library can transform a community!

The library is not a quiet place in Cambodia. As soon as the recess bell rings, students flood into the room, clamoring for a book, and then collapse into groups of two or three to read out loud on the floor. It was not always this way; just a few years ago there was little …

We loved collaborating with Photographers Without Borders to share stories from Sambhali Trust -" Empowering women and children in Rajasthan". Here's a beautiful short documentary they produced; it's one episode in the PWB TV series that showcases the amazing work they do all over the world.

You may recognize Parveen from a video we made earlier this year!

Hacienda Merida hotel guests support local sustainability efforts just by visiting! And they can relax in dreamy hammocks like this while sipping locally sourced coconut ice cream smoothies. It's a magical place, and we're excited to share the story of their "Ecobricks" program for re-purposing plastic trash.

Thanks to CultureTrav and Visit.org for inviting us to contribute this post.

Visitors to Nicaraguan lakeside paradise help turn trash into classrooms. Learn more about these about sustainable efforts from volunteers in Nicaragua.

Alvaro Molina, owner of Hacienda Merida, shares how "Ecobricks" made of plastic trash are addressing poverty, pollution, and the lack of education on the island of Ometepe. Hacienda Mérida pays locals $.50 to make each brick, providing income for villagers like 84-year-old Don Francisco, who turns in hundreds of bottles each year. The system gets plastic waste off the streets, and the bricks are good building materials for the bilingual school that Hacienda Mérida funds. Learn more about Hacienda Mérida and opportunities to volunteer with Ometepe Bilingual School at omprakash.org/global/hacienda-merida

Thanks to Alvaro for his time and hospitality. Thanks also to Yam Aisner and Jorge Angel for some of the footage that appears in this video. This video features the song "Good to Go" by Josh Woodward: joshwoodward.com.
