We are wishing you all well. We have survived and thrived but also lost loved ones during the pandemic. We are grateful to our clients who have continued to come back to us, as well as refer us to other clients. During the pandemic, we were able to create nonprofit videos related to the environment, education, race equity, food insecurity, refugee rights, domestic violence, labor trafficking and sex trafficking, LGBT rights, legal heroes, legal aid assistance, unemployment benefits, dairy farm worker rights, and the list goes on. We’ve also been working with a local artist on a music video, with City agencies in King County and with our construction clients on projects at the new Seatac International Arrivals Facility (nice facility!), the light rail in Shoreline and other roadway projects along I-5. We were also able to meet and film Lem Howell, a local civil rights hero and Doug Baldwin, former Seahawks wide receiver, which was pretty cool. Here are some photos from this past year. Many blessings to all and looking forward to seeing you in person again soon!!!

The Nature Conservancy in WA

Here is a recent video InterChange Media created for The Nature Conservancy in WA. Jenny Ting and Michele Gomes loved spending time in an 800 - 1000 year old forest!

Washington’s coastal rainforest is a rare treasure, providing habitat for iconic species alongside culture, jobs and identity for coastal communities.

The vital lessons we have learned at Ellsworth Creek on the Southwest Washington coast inform our conservation efforts across the Pacific Northwest: http://bit.ly/WA-forests

It was fun conducting an interview in the Mariners dugout for one of the recipients of the 2019 APEX Awards. Fred Rivera, executive vice president and general counsel for the Seattle Mariners, is receiving the Sally P. Savage Leadership in Philanthropy Award. It is one of eleven awards the Washington State Bar is giving out this year.

"Did you know that eviction is the leading cause of homelessness?" Fred found out and he and his team at the Mariners did something about it! Find out here:

Jenny Ting and I recently had the opportunity to work with the Harriette Bryant and Vicki Collins, the Founders of OurGEMS. our-gems.org

Their work is having a life saving impact on the young students who participate in their group mentoring programs in Kitsap County. We feel fortunate and grateful to have had an opportunity to recently produce a video about the values they are promoting.

Our company, InterChange Media Art Productions, received the Greater Seattle Business Association's 2018 Green/Sustainable Business of the Year Award.

In 2010, Jenny Ting approached Michele Gomes with an idea to launch a video production company. Working fulltime at her corporate job, Michele was wary about investing so much time into the project.

“I thought, if it’s not meaningful, it’s not worth it,” said Michele. “I’m not going to waste my time and my life working for anyone else or any other thing if it’s not meaningful and if it’s not helping other people.”

With those guiding principles locked into place, Jenny and Michele then set out on building GSBA’s 2018 Green/Sustainable Business of the Year, a video production company built around highlighting critical environmental and social issues. But first, they had to come up with a name for their company.

“Jenny used to be a transportation engineer. She is the only person I know when driving down a highway and passing exits, instead of saying, ‘Let’s get off at this exit,’ she’ll say, ‘Let’s get off at this interchange,’” said Michele. “I thought, ‘That has an interesting ring to it. That has a lot of energy, I like the sound of that. Well, let’s merge our paths.’ She was an engineer, and I had worked in the arts industry, so we called it InterChange Media Art Productions.”

Over the past eight years, Jenny and Michele’s work has seen them travel across the country providing pre-production, production, and post-production editing services for everything from the National Geographic Channel, or the Liberian Medical Association USA, to the City of Tacoma, or the Pacific Science Center.

“Our clients range from everyone from the nonprofit world, to television shows, to those in the legal field, and in construction as well,” said Jenny. “We’ve worked with the Brainerd Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, the Washington State Bar Association, the Legal Foundation of Washington, and the Greater Seattle Business Association. Our videos have helped raise over $4 million (for nonprofits) since 2011.”

While Michele and Jenny’s involvement with GSBA dates back to InterChange’s first year in business, they’ve worked closely with the GSBA Scholarship Fund for the last five years, telling the stories of our scholars through feature videos.

“Just the other day we were walking down Broadway and we ran into one of the scholars,” said Michele. “We’re grateful to be able to witness the generosity in the community. It’s a model organization and we’re really very happy to be a part of it.”

Through GSBA, InterChange became members of the NGLCC which has connected them with several of their largest clients.

“Because the mission of our company is to focus on life-sustaining values, we have focused on working with organizations who are trying to do good,” said Jenny. “There’s a lot of divisiveness right now in the world we live in and in our country. But because of the work we’ve done, we realize there are people in our communities and country who are doing the best they can. They see a problem, and they bring their communities together and solve the problems of today. So we actually have a lot of hope for the future that things will get better.”

An overarching theme across InterChange’s body of work is their focus on environmental topics and sustainability. Aside from their creative endeavors, Jenny and Michele’s offices are located in the Bullitt Center on Madison St., the greenest commercial building in the world.

“We do what we can on our part to be as carbon-free as possible. We work with conservation organizations which focus on conserving land or endangered species… Coming from the east coast originally, moving to the Pacific Northwest was so amazing to see that ‘sustainability’ is an everyday word here,” said Michele. “In other places where we’ve travelled for film festivals and such, it’s not really the case. It’s very exciting that there’s so much initiative that’s being taken here.”

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all! 2018 was an amazing year for us. We’d like to thank some of our clients these past few months: the Nature Conservancy, University of Washington, Clark Construction Group, Brainerd Foundation, Legal Foundation of Washington, GSBA, OurGEMS and other nonprofits in Washington State who we work with on an ongoing basis. We continued to travel around the country with our Saving Sea Turtles film. Here we are at a screening this past December in New Orleans at the Audubon of the Americas. Wishing you all the best as we head into 2019!

It’s been an exciting past 2 months capturing footage around the State! We’ve been working on creating about 30 videos for the Bullitt Foundation, Dean Standish Perkins & Associates with Seattle University, the Legal Foundation of Washington, the Olympic College Foundation, Platinum Group with Sound Transit and the Washington State Department of Transportation, Tabor 100, the Washington State Bar Association, the Washington State Bar Foundation and Zeno. We also have an exciting partnership coming up with Microsoft and the Greater Seattle Business Association - more soon! Here’s a photo from a Bullitt Foundation event awarding Nicola Smith as the 2018 Bullitt Environmental Fellow.

Make a Move for Math 2018

Here is one of two videos we created for Zeno, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire early learners and elementary school aged children to love math with fun and engaging activities. They raised over $180,000 at their Make a Move for Math event this year!

Math is more than numbers. When a child has the opportunity to build their confidence and skills in math from an early age, their possibilities are infinite!

You can catch the movie this summer on American Airlines flights (70-minute feature length version), the New England Aquarium's Simons IMAX Theater in Boston (45-minute version), and possibly on your local PBS station (57-minute version). The film also won an award at the American Conservation Film Festival and will be playing there in October. We've made so many versions of the film but at least it's getting out there!

Here is the video we created for Ravenna Locksmith. Howard Nevitt has been serving the Puget Sound area for 28 years, since 1988. We've used his services twice now - one for business and one for home. It turns out there are quite a few locksmiths who try to scam people. They actually make your locks worse so you have to pay more. Just be aware out there :).

For the third time, we've partnered with GSBA Members InterChange Media and Microsoft to provide diverse LGBTQ-owned small businesses the opportunity to bolster their image through the production of professional-quality profile videos. Recipients of the 2020 Reel Partner grant include Aidan Key of Gender Diversity, Fran Dunaway and Naomi Gonzalez of TomboyX, Nat Stratton-Clarke of Cafe Flora, and Veronica Smith of data2insight.
After 38 Business & Humanitarian Awards dinners, we've seen a lot of incredible things take place during this event. But last night was probably one of the most awesome evenings in GSBA history. In an era when it's challenge to just get through the morning's news every day, coming together to celebrate those in our community who've led us through these dark times is all the more moving and revitalizing. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal kicked off our night with a rallying cry of a speech that had the whole room on its feet, and the inspiring Lt. Governor Cyrus Habib followed with powerful words which fueled us for the rest of the evening. We are so thankful to our amazing sponsors who made Justice For All: 38th Annual Business & Humanitarian Awards Dinner possible, including our Title Sponsor WellsFargo and Presenting Sponsor Vulcan Inc.aninc, our hosts Seattle Marriott Waterfront, and our tireless crew of volunteers. And of course, thank you and congratulations to all of our finalists and recipients of the evening: New Business of the Year Aluel Cellars, Green/Sustainable Business of the Year InterChange Media, Community Leader of the Year Monisha Harrell of Equal Rights Washington, Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Justice Bobbe J. Bridge of Center for Children & Youth Justice - CCYJ, Board Chair's Award Recipient Barry Faught of Broadcast Coffee Roasters, Jorge Barón and his team at Nonprofit of the Year Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Business Leader of the Year Kate Beck of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Business of the Year TomboyX, and our Special Recognition honoree Justice Mary Yu. #EqualityIsGoodBusiness Photo Courtesy Meryl Schenker
Congratulations to Salvador A Mungia, recipient of the 2019 Charles Goldmark Distinguished Service Award.
