Publishing “In Unitate Fidei” (“In the Unity of Faith”) Nov. 23, Pope Leo marked the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and its Creed. He said he wanted it released in anticipation of his visit to Turkey Nov. 27-30 to celebrate with Orthodox and Protestant leaders the anniversary of the Creed Christians share.

When Christians recite the Creed, it should prompt an examination of conscience about what they truly believe, Pope Leo XIV wrote.

Saints in the Making! Last Saturday, 500 high school students gathered at St. Martin's University in Lacey for the annual Catholic Youth Conference. The main motivation for the trip Nov. 27-Dec. 2 is to celebrate the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, which laid the basis for the Creed all mainline Christians still recite.

By choosing to make his first trip as pope to Turkey and Lebanon, Pope Leo XIV will shine a huge spotlight on the faith Christians share.

"This conference was more than an event; it was a sacred encounter with history, community and the enduring power of faith. As a father, a Catholic, a person working in the archdiocese and a witness to this legacy, I left New Orleans renewed in the Lord Jesus, humbled by what I had learned and hopeful for my role in working for racial justice and equity."

The pope calls us to move from charity to justice — to transform systems that perpetuate poverty. This is the heart of our Catholic social teaching. This is the assurance of the Psalm we heard this morning: “The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice” (Psalm 98).

Read Archbishop Paul Etienne's reflection for World Day of the Poor in the link below.

With the poor in mind, this is a significant opportunity to reflect upon what the fullness of faith in Jesus Christ entails.
