SV Orca Song This is the page of SV Orca Song, a 1968 Columbia 36 which fell on hard times and had been neglected.

We the friends and crew are dedicated to bringing this old boat back to life and sailing the open waters as she was built to do.

This is the engine compartment when we boarded for the first time. The last pic is current and the cleanup continues.

Until recently that area has not seen much attention but with an upcoming project it became necessary to get things cleaned up.

Also notice no engine? Originally OS had an inboard motor that was used for propulsion. Currently a Honda 20 hp outboard is used with remote throttle.

Down the road there will once again be an inboard motor but not like what was in before. Something much better. 🙂.

Maybe the most important repair of this entire restoration. Works like a charm!

This is the kind of monitoring we’ve been waiting for!!!

From anywhere in the world with a signal, the electrical system on OS can now be monitored and even somewhat controlled!

You may notice that there is nothing happening on the top half of the status screen. This is because currently OS only has a DC system installed and running on battery/solar power. The only AC system is 5 outlets running off of shore power.

This will of course be remedied in the near future but for now, when she sails, she only has DC power.

A slew of projects awaits OS including reseating the seating bench, getting the toilet to a fully functional state, Installing more electrical monitoring equipment and the big task of adding a wind generator to the electrical system just in time for the blustery fall.

Stand by for pics and vids!

Today the Lights for the head were installed furthering the weening from the shore power connection.

There is still a few polishing touches like managing the cables and such and removing the original lighting fixture but these LED lights are looking good in the head.

And we now have radio!!!

So much work has happened that there has been very little time to post. That and the iPhone camera is acting up.

Here is a collage of pics from the past 3 months. Included is the bottom paint, the battery bank, galley lights, navigation station (with lighting!) ventilation fans for the battery bank and some screen shots of the two apps we use for monitoring the electrical system. The Battle Born Batteries app and the Victron Connect app.

Not pictured (yet) is the first cabin fan which was much needed today, the port side bus bars for the port side lighting, the Simrad GPS, the grounding plate and the lightning rod.

Yesterday we mounted the equipment in place. Today we did part of the wiring.
