Anthony Writes A Book Session 14

One of my favorite parts about writing is when an amazing idea just comes out of nowhere while I’m creating something. Sometimes it’s a description, sometimes it’s a joke, and this time it’s the opening lines of a consequential character.

In this case, it’s the very woman that Eliza’s so desperate to meet.
I’ve tried hard to give many of the important characters an entrance.

Eliza lands on the stars and rearranges the constellation at her feet. Marquez’s levity and narcissism are on full display.
Vila Pirral’s needs to have a gravitas to her… to Eliza, she’s larger than life, so I tried to convey that here.

Anthony Writes a Book Session 10

I swear I’m eventually going to have my breakout writing session where I just write like 5,000 words in one day. Unfortunately, between work, life, caring for my family, and my fear of starting this out all wrong, I’m going to have to settle on days where I write a tenth of that for now.
Good news though — I reread the entire first chapter after not looking at it for a week, and I only changed a few words. I think it’s set in stone now, until the editing process actually begins.
Chapter 2 is almost done as well. I just hope I’m conveying the emotions and chemistry between characters that I want but uh… that may be for your guys to soon decide.
Speaking of chemistry — who’s got it? Which of your favorite characters just have the sparks? Romantic or otherwise?

Today was a good day! I took a half-day at work and decided to write during the day for once.
When I’m not busting my ass, I’ll have to do this more often.

Writing Session 5
I took two hours this afternoon to review what I had already written and then completed the opening scene between Eliza and her mother.
This feels like a good stopping point for now because, with the setup out of the way, Eliza has been given permission to truly begin her journey.
Speaking of opening scenes, what are some of your favorites? We’ll go book or screen—including games!

Writing Session 4

I wrote for about three and a half hours tonight —- way later than I should’ve since I have a meeting in… six hours. But… I made headway! Three full pages are written!
Hopefully they’re good.
And tomorrow I’ll just fake it til I make it.

Writing Session 3

The struggle has been real. I ended up focusing a lot on work for the last few weeks while the story continues to churn in my mind. I finally sat down and rewrote the beginning, but I know I’m going to rewrite it again tomorrow.
I think being a content writer is getting in the way of the creative process. It’s a very different approach to writing. I need to be less deliberate and cognitive of literally every word and just let things flow.
I know that things will be easier once I get past this chapter. I’ll find my flow.
No one ever said that writing a book was easy.
Okay, someone probably said it once.

Writing Session 2

Beginnings are tough! I actually wrote about 500 words, but a lot ended up on a document I fondly call “the cutting room floor.”
There are lines that I could weave into the chapter later… various descriptions and such. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with them just yet.
I’ve decided that I don’t want to track my hours during this process. I don’t want to know, haha! It’s going to be a loooooong process, but this is also my idea of fun.
Unfortunately, it’s going to take me a while to really get going. Freelance life is very much feast or famine. I’ve had a pretty long feast, but now I’m in famine mode. It’s partially my own fault. Nearly all of my business has been referral-based for the last few years, so I haven’t been marketing my safe or focusing on lead generation outreach. So… right now, finding more clients is taking up much of my mental space.

Night writes are bareable again.What am I writing? Well, stay tuned 😉
