On this day six years ago in Seattle, SPD Sergeant Nathan Patterson held down a protester and punched him six times for slipping through the police line after being told to go up the hill. Patterson was given a written reprimand, the second-lowest discipline

He has been repeatedly sued or investigated for police brutality throughout his career, including twice after this incident. He was suspended once for beating a homeless man with a club and again for taunting a crowd that formed on 12th and Jackson (while beating another homeless man)

Normally, if a chud went after a cop, we’d treat it like a “Let them fight” situation. But this time around, the cop is collateral damage to a larger, well-funded assault on trans people, so we’re picking a side.

DM for the location or comment “ACAB” to RSVP

We’re assembling our next pack of Bad Cop Baseball Cards, and it’s a team effort this time. You’re invited to our Baseball Card Work Party in South Seattle from 10:30-1:30. No need to show up early or stay the whole time. You can pop in, make a contribution and go.

The way it works: You’ll be assigned an officer or an incident. You’ll read an OPA report or civil case and write up a couple of paragraphs. We’ll provide instructions and guidance if you need it. No experience needed.

Seattle Police Officer Jeffrey Allen pulled over a Black man in West Seattle for allegedly revving his engine too loudly as he passed. When the man got out of the car, Allen rushed him, slammed him against the car, and handcuffed him. The man was detained briefly before being let go with a citation. He alleged that he was being profiled and mistreated due to racism. The Office of Police Accountability investigated and found that he violate multiple department policies, including de-escalation. He was suspended for nine days.

Based solely on a hit from a Flock Safety camera, a King County deputy detained the wrong man at a gas station in Covington. The deputy suplexed him and sent him to the hospital with a brain bleed.

Should the deputy be fired for this?

Choe is super anti-Black, yet he wears streetwear and does his best approximation of 1990s Black vernacular. He’s like a MAGA rapper with verses about l*nching or a neo-N*Zi with cornrows. Culture vulture.

Comment “ACAB” to sign up

Our Seattle police baseball cards are back (or they will be with your help). Next Sunday, we’re hosting our first-ever work party at the library where we’re inviting the community to produce our next batch of baseball cards.

How it works: Everyone will get an officer and a list of OPA cases. You’ll read the reports and write up 1-2 paragraphs about each. No experience needed. You’ll get instructions and guidance on what to do. Come learn about police misconduct with us! Hope to see you there next Sunday!

“Jail them all” isn’t a solution for homelessness. So many conservatives bemoan the high costs of the response to homelessness, but the carceral approach would be many times more expensive. A day in jail averages about $200 in King County. That’s nearly $70,000 annually. Research shows that much smaller unconditional cash transfers have yielded results.

Would you support public cash subsidies to the homeless?

You don’t see this every day. For once, cops investigated themselves and found something. A months-long investigation by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office resulted in formal charges against Deputy Edgar Ruiz for felony harassment after probable cause was found that Ruiz allegedly threatened his romantic rival.
