Remember earlier when I said I was thinking about planting tomatillos for our essentially weekly chilaquiles? 🌱

Turns out Home Depot had starts, and thanks to store credit, girl math says they were free. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Popped over and grabbed two. They’re now tucked in the garden. I’m looking forward to the day we can walk outside and pick fresh tomatillos. Homemade food straight from our own yard. The dream.👌❤️

This week I’m restocking some homestead staples, so I’ll be sharing a few of the recipes I reach for most often in our kitchen. ✨

This is a small batch recipe for Taco Seasoning, but if you try it and love it (you probably will 😆), feel free to double or even quadruple it to fill a bigger jar. 👌

Put 2-3 tablespoons per pound of meat, or however much your heart desires. 🥄

I’m starting to think I need a few tomatillo plants in the garden. 🌱

Homemade chilaquiles have made their way into our lives once a week now lol. 🤩 Soo, I’m eyeing the empty space in one of the garden beds and thinking a few tomatillo starts might be in order. We love a delicious meal made from scratch, and the idea of stepping outside to pick ingredients for it someday sounds even better.

Who else makes their own coffee creamer? My go to is milk, sweetened condensed milk, a splash of vanilla, and a splash of maple syrup.

It’s simple, delicious, and made with ingredients I already have on hand.

This may sound silly because we raised them for meat and are genuinely excited to fill the freezer with our homegrown pork.

But it's a little weird to look out at an empty pen.

Especially the spot close to their water barrel where they used to lay out in the sunshine and see it empty.

It felt even more strange to NOT bring crusts out to them today after our weekly pizza Friday last night. We had family over so made additional mini pizzas which meant more crusts than usual too. 🍕

Homesteading can be both grateful and bittersweet at the same time.
