Hot take: the point of chores is not a cleaner house. It’s a more capable child.
No, I’m not talking about turning kids into tiny housekeepers. I’m talking about something much more important: teaching them that life runs because people notice what needs doing and step in.

That starts small.
A preschooler puts shoes by the door.
A six-year-old wipes the table after snack.
An eight-year-old empties the bathroom trash.
A tween starts the washing machine and checks whether the detergent actually went in.
Those are not random little jobs. That’s practice.
Practice noticing.
Practice following through.
Practice being part of a family instead of the center of one.
