Look, it’s time for the M’s to stop waiting around and actually pull the trigger on some trades.
With C**t Emerson officially up, the writing is on the wall. The team is handing the keys to the younger core. Interestingly, it was J.P. Crawford himself who approached the front office to offer a move to third base—a selfless, veteran move to help bridge the transition for Emerson. While Crawford has been our everyday shortstop for eight seasons, he’s actually got legitimate experience at the hot corner from his time coming up through the Phillies system and his early MLB days. He knows exactly what he’s doing, but even with that willingness to adapt, we shouldn't let this turn into a permanent roster logjam. We need to be aggressive.
We also need to be honest about the pitching staff. Luis Castillo is struggling, and we need to clear space in our rotation for the guys who are part of our future. Let's move him while he still has that veteran pedigree—even if he hasn't been hot this year, other teams still see that track record and think they can "fix" him. That reputation is his most valuable asset right now.
I’d love to see us package J.P.—who is showing his true team-first character by opening up his own utility options—with Castillo. Throw in a mid-tier prospect to sweeten the deal, and you’ve got a package that’s actually attractive to a contender.
If we can flip that into a 3-for-1 for a legit blue-chip cornerstone, or maybe a 4-for-2 to get a high-tier prospect plus a "high-ceiling/low-risk" talent who can guarantee production, we do it.
We aren't just trading guys; we're buying roster space to let the kids—Emerson, Cole Young, and the rest—actually play. Let’s reset the payroll, stop the experiments, and build around the future. 🌊⚓️
