As someone who had big sunburns as a kid and gets a skin check with my dermatologist every six months, I’m always looking for information on how I can be nicer and more careful with my skin micro biome.
Someone commented about people making claims about products with retinol, something I approach with great caution. The TruAura formulation expert responded with this fabulous information so you can make your decision with the best interest for your skin.
It is a clinically proven fact that retinol is an ingredient that is a known irritant and increases the risk of sun damage. It is impossible to refute that. Irritants by nature disrupt the skin's barrier function, which directly affects the integrity of the skin microbiome. Again, a fact that is impossible to refute. While retinol has some positive benefits for the skin, particularly as it relates to anti-aging, the potential risks to the skin microbiome (by altering the skin's microbial communities) and skin barrier function (by increasing dryness, inflammation and sun sensitivity) are too high to be considered safe for regular at-home use. While retinol may contribute to acidifying the skin and building collagen (which is great for the microbiome), those attributes can be achieved using ingredients that are not known irritants. TruAura is not the only company that prohibits the use of retinol due to potential skin irritation/inflammation. Everyone on Facebook has an opinion (more frequently than not, an uneducated/uninformed opinion) and for some reason feels entitled to share it. If someone doesn't want to use TruAura's products, then move on. If someone wants to risk the health and balance of their skin microbiome by using know skin irritants, then by all means...go ahead. This is not a religion...it's skin care.
I truly appreciate Gary’s wisdom and balanced approach to his work. I love the results that my sun abused 72 year old skin has because of my TruAura products.
