If you want quality foods that support local communities, then you don't need Aldi, or Winn Dixie, Publix, Wally World, or any of the big box stores.
We need to learn to eat with the seasons and eat from local producers. Because those "fresh" tomatoes you buy in January came from Ecuador and there's nothing local about that.
We need to look toward our actual local producers and not our local big box stores. Local producers like......
Blue Sky Farm
Latham Bee Farm
Mushroom Man Tan
Bayou Pecan Company
Cedar and Moon Apothecary
Humble Shack Farm
Mimi & Poppy's Place
Sims Woodland Farms
When we start eating local, buying local, and supporting local, there will be more local options appear, because the market will demand it.
You can find ALL of the above farms and producers at the Mimi & Poppy's Place Community Homesteader Workshop being held at the Semmes Community Center February 21st, 2026 from 9am to 5pm and the admission is FREE!. They will be there with their products for the season and will be providing presentations and demonstrations about how they farm, forage, and harvest. They're willing to give all of you and inside look on how YOU ๐ซต๐ฝ can be your own local producer.
We'll also have Potter Farm, MGM Academy of Agribusiness , Jena Benton, and Old 45 Balcksmith to offer their wisdom on fruit tree planting/pruning, when and how to start your garden, and canning your own fruits, jams, and jellies, and a little big of iron forging.
If you truly want local, then support local producers.
