What a first day for our new intern! We are excited to welcome Aubrey Sturgeon, a senior at Sentinel High School, to The Sentinel Leader as our newest intern! And we certainly didn’t ease her into the job. On her very first day, Aubrey traveled to Cordell to cover Gov. Kevin Stitt’s visit as part of his 77-county tour.

She didn’t just stand back and watch, either. Aubrey stepped up and asked the governor a question: When he was her age, did he ever imagine he would someday become governor? His answer turned into some pretty great advice about dreaming big, setting goals and not being afraid of goals that may seem impossible.

Not bad for Day 1!

We’re looking forward to giving Aubrey a behind-the-scenes look at community journalism this year — from covering events and interviewing people to taking photos and learning just how much goes into putting a newspaper together.
