In a statement from Kevin Nelson, Mayor of Salix, Iowa, the Salix City Council meeting will be postponed to later this month. “Due to death and terrorist threats directed at the city's elected officials by multiple individuals via Facebook comments. These comments and the individuals behind them have been reported by Salix City staff and I to the Woodbury County Sheriff's Department, who are investigating the threats. The threats were graphic and disturbing. The date and time of the rescheduled Council meeting will be released early next week. That will give City officials and the Woodbury County Sheriff Department time to investigate the threats and implement additional security measures. The City Council and I take these threats seriously and want all our citizens to be safe,” said Nelson.

Statement from Salix Guardian Alliance

The Salix Guardian Alliance has issued the following statement regarding reported threats against Salix city officials:

“We are deeply saddened that our council members and the Mayor feel unsafe. The actions of one individual have halted the meeting process for everyone and delayed implementation of the proposed moratorium wording.

“This individual does not represent the residents who have legitimate concerns regarding a potential data center in Salix.”

"We strongly condemn this type of behavior, as well as any threats of violence or harm directed toward others."

Recently, I sat down with Wayne Dominowski with the Sergeant Bluff Advocate Newspaper. The longtime editor of that publication and other Northwest Iowa newspapers, he still writes in his free time, and I’m thrilled he reached out to me. Topics covered included my background, what led to my candidacy, thoughts on data centers and the moratorium, and more. Be on the lookout for this interview in a future edition of the Sergeant Bluff Advocate in August!
