Islam is politically strongest where religion, law, culture, and government form a closed loop. In places where dissent is costly and conformity is the price of belonging, that loop holds firm.
That reality becomes relevant the moment large-scale immigration into America stops producing assimilation and starts producing parallel societies.
Look at just the most recent two cases that are getting media. Keep in mind, there's thousands more not yet old enough to run for office.
Anchor Baby El-Sayed - Parent's from Egypt - 90% Muslim, raised in America yes, but in a specific community within America that keeps traditional Egyptian Muslim Values over traditional American values.
Anchor Baby Hasan Piker - Parent's from Turkey -95% Muslim, born on American soil, raised in Istanbul Turkey, adopted all of the culture and beliefs of a Turkish Muslim Communist, and came back to America to attend college using his birth status as a citizen.
Are supposed to be surprised by their views of America?
For most of our history the bargain was understood: you come, you learn the language, you absorb the American civic culture, you accept the Constitution as the supreme political authority, and over time you become American.
Did you get that? You accept the Constitution as the supreme political authority.
I have a feeling, the Anchor Baby Politicians are not getting that part at all. Worse yet, I think it was planned that way.
What we are watching now in multiple Democrat-run cities and states is something very, very different. People relocate physically while deliberately recreating the language, religious institutions, social expectations, and political habits of the countries they left.
Then they raise the their children inside those same structures. Then some of those children, citizens by birthright, run for office carrying the worldview of their parent's, and their old country into American institutions.
The standard reply from the Democrats is that these candidates are “American citizens,” not Egyptians, Turks, Somalis, or Pakistanis. But are they? I mean really? In a technical legal status maybe, but are they a real American citizen in their hearts and minds? One that loves America as their homeland and loves U.S. Constitution?
Citizenship is a legal fact. Assimilation is a cultural one, and being born on American soil does not automatically produce the second.
A politician can hold a U.S. passport, speak accented English, and still operate from assumptions about law, gender, speech, authority, and loyalty that remain closer to Mogadishu, Lahore, Cairo, or Istanbul than to the American Founding.
When communities organized around those assumptions grow large enough to elect their own representatives and begin shaping local institutions, the question I pose stops being theoretical.
Is America assimilating them, or are parts of America being assimilated by them?
Birthright citizenship answers only the first half of that question. It says nothing about the second. And a free society that refuses to ask the second question for fear of being called intolerant will eventually discover that tolerance without assimilation is a surrender by America.
