đ Meet Brandon Hudsonđ
Brandon has been part of the Sevier County Choppers maintenance team for over nine years, ten months, keeping our Robinson helicopters in top condition. His path into aviation began in South Alabama, where a local aviation college sparked his interest. After moving to Tennessee in 2014, a former SCC employee helped him land the opportunity to join our team.
He holds an Associates degree in Avionics and FAA Powerplant Mechanic Certificate. He enjoys the variety each day brings. One of the most interesting projects heâs worked on was an R44 that was able to be flown remotely without a pilot.
Brandonâs favorite part of the job? âBeing able to work on really old and really new helicopters and see how theyâve evolved and improved over the years.â A typical day for him is never the sameâsome days he works on three or four different aircraft. He especially enjoys complete overhauls, saying itâs rewarding to take an empty fuselage and build it into a fully flying aircraft.
His favorite tool in the shop is Paulâs Milwaukee electric rivet puller, and one of his most memorable moments was when the team had their smallest employee climb inside a tail cone to mount a battery.
If he werenât working on helicopters, Brandon says heâd probably be a ride mechanic at Dollywood, after years of experience in industries ranging from cellular communications to grocery store butcher work.
Outside of work, he enjoys car stereo installations, carpentry, and visiting theme parks. His advice for apprentices: âIf you get really good at a specific task, youâll become the go-to person for it.â
To stay up to date on new technology and safety standards, Brandon says the team holds group meetings to share in-house discoveries, tips, and tricks, while management keeps everyone informed on new FAA requirements.
