Landslide tsunami mimics 1964 Rez Bay landslide

"In an initial estimate, the landslide was possibly larger than 100 million cubic meters, which makes it possibly the largest tsunami and landslide in Alaska since 2015, according to the Alaska Earthquake Center."

The wave of Sunday’s landslide-triggered tsunami in Southeast Alaska pummeled its way at least 100 feet up the adjacent hillside, according to a new report.

No Tsumami threat for Resurrection Bay for now

A Tsunami Warning (TSW) was issued for the Aleutians West region this Tuesday afternoon. Because of our monitoring of the Alaska Rural Communications System (ARCS) we receive Emergency Alert System (EAS) traffic from distant parts of the State of Alaska.

We will be adjusting our filtering of this source to prevent future forwarding of ARCS TSW traffic that does not apply to our area.

However, keep your ears peeled in case the Kamchatka Peninsula (Russia) seismic event causes waves endangering the Gulf Coast.

In the event the threat level is upgraded, further alerts will be issued via phone, sirens and broadcast radio and television.

We will go live for coverage at that time.

Network upgrades may affect local TV

Our TV broadcast over channels 7 and 17 in the Seward and Bear Creek area may briefly be affected by network upgrades upstream from us.

Four 24/7 program streams are currently offered in the area including Anchorage TV stations, PBS, KTOO and UAA-TV.

This local broadcast TV service is old school, over the air and reception is generally possible with rabbit ears or the like, or a window decal antenna or a small outside antenna.

Example antennas are linked below and some or all are available locally at Knots So Fast Country Store, depending on inventory.

We will be performing major network upgrades Saturday, July 12 to improve reliability and bandwidth of our broadcast signals. Expect brief interruptions or outages for KSKA, KAKM (Channel 11), KTOO, ARCS radio feeds, and streaming services.

We appreciate your patience as we work to serve you better. In the meantime, you can keep up with your favorite programs using the PBS, NPR, or AKPM apps.

Seward carjacker crashes, snarls traffic at Summit Lake

Two were medevaced from the scene of the crash, with one transported to Seward Providence. After receiving medical care, Rondy Dupuy, of Seward, was remanded at Wildwood Pre-Trial.

The Seward Highway was closed for approximately two hours during the response and investigation.

Alaska State Troopers determined that alcohol or other drugs were a factor in the incident and driver Dupuy, with a history of DUI, was so charged along with numerous misdemeanors and felonies.

Seward carjacker crashes, snarls traffic at Summit Lake

Seward based Alaska State Troopers received a REDDI report early Saturday evening of a motorcycle being driven erratically on the Seward Highway near mile 13.

While responding, AST was notified that a good Samaritan had stopped to check on a motorcycle that had since fallen over, causing injury to the driver.

Reporting parties also related that the motorcycle rider, later identified as Rondy Cole Dupuy, age 47 of Seward, then stole the Jeep of the good Samaritan and proceeded northbound in the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed the motorcycle was also recently stolen, within a few hours prior to the incident.

The stolen Jeep had continued northbound Seward Highway where it rear-ended a sedan, causing injury to both occupants.

Dupuy was arrested at the scene on an outstanding warrant for drug charges, and new felony assault, vehicle theft and theft charges as well as driving with license revoked and under the influence.

Two were medevaced from the scene of the crash, with one transported to Seward Providence. After receiving medical care, Dupuy was remanded at Wildwood Pre-Trial in Kenai.

The Seward Highway was closed for approximately two hours during the response and investigation.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Cooper Landing Emergency Services, Moose Pass Volunteer Fire Company and Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and provided assistance to the Alaska State Troopers.
