2025 SEYMOUR HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES ANNOUNCED
Five outstanding athletes have been selected for induction into the Seymour High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The 2025 inductees include the late Donnie Cooper, Emily Stout Jackson, Pat Kelley, David “Bo” McDougal and Todd Prewitt.
Cooper was a 1964 Seymour graduate and excelled in football, baseball and wrestling for the Owls. In football, he was a three-year starter at running back and set the single season record for scoring with 100 points and the career scoring record with 220 points. That career mark still stands as the 9th best in school history. The Owls had a three year record of 18-8-1. He was also a three-year starter in baseball and led the Owls to a South Central Conference title his senior year. He earned All-SCC honors and was the team MVP. And he earned two varsity letters in wrestling and led Seymour to a two year record of 18-4. He was selected as Seymour High School’s “Most Outstanding Athlete” in 1964.
Stout Jackson was a 1995 SHS graduate and is regarded as one of the best volleyball players in the history of the school. She twice earned team MVP honors and twice was selected to the All-South Central Conference first team. She helped the Lady Owls win three straight sectional titles and consectutive regional championships. As a senior, she led Seymour to a 33-6 record, a South Central Conference title and sectional and regional championships. She also set a school record with 105 aces. She was voted first team All-State and was selected to the Indiana All-Star team. She continued her volleyball career at Penn State University, where she played in four NCAA Tournaments and helped the Nittany Lions advance to the national tournament championship match in her junior and senior seasons.
Kelley was a 1958 Seymour graduate and played football and basketball for the Owls. He was a three-year varsity football player and helped Seymour to a 9-0 record and South Central Conference title as a sophomore. He led the Owls to a 7-1-1 record his senior year and another SCC title. He was named All-Conference and first team All-State as a senior. And he is the only Seymour football player to be named to the “All American Prep Football Team” and played in the National All-Prep game in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Kelley received multiple football scholarship offers and accepted a four-year offer to the University of Nebraska. He also was a two-year varsity basketball player for the Owls and helped the team win two straight sectional titles and the school’s second regional championship in 1957.
McDougal was a 1976 SHS graduate and earned nine varsity letters in basketball, track and football. He was a three-year starter and four-year letter winner in basketball. He helped the Owls to three straight sectional titles and one regional championship. As a junior, he averaged 16 points, was the team’s leading rebounder and shot nearly 63% from the field (fourth best in school history) in leading Seymour to the semi-state championship game. He was voted All-South Central Conference his junior and senior years and All-State honorable mention as a senior. For his career, McDougal scored 1057 points (14th in school history) and had 784 rebounds (5th in school history). In track, he earned three varsity letters and broke the school record in the discus. He was the SCC discus champion as a junior and senior. He was a two-year starter in football and the team co-captain his junior year. McDougal was the first individual to be named Seymour High School’s “Most Outstanding Athlete” twice, earning that honor as a junior and senior. He continued his athletic career at DePauw University, earning eight letters in basketball and track.
Prewitt graduated from Seymour in 1988 and was a standout player in baseball and basketball for the Owls. He was a two-year starter and three-year letter winner in baseball and helped the Owls win sectional and regional titles in 1987 and 1988 and the Indiana State Baseball Championship in 1988. It was the first team state title in school history. That season, Seymour had a school best 35-2 record and won the South Central Conference championship. Prewitt had a pitching record of 14-0 with an earned run average of 1.11. He was the winning pitcher in the regional, semi-state and state championship games. He was voted to the All-SCC first team and the All-State first team. He was also selected to play in the Indiana North-South All Star games. Prewitt had a 9-1 pitching record during his junior year to help the Owls win sectional and regional titles. His 24 career wins are the third most in school history. He was also a two-year starter in basketball. He averaged 12 points a game as a senior and helped lead the Owls to a 16-6 record. After graduation, Prewitt played two years of college baseball at Indiana University and two years of baseball and one year of basketball at Indiana University Southeast.
These five individuals will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on December 20 prior to the Seymour-Jennings County varsity boys basketball game at Lloyd Scott Gymnasium.

From WXKU NEWS 04/30/25 1:39PM A report of an active shooter in Seymour on Wednesday leads to an arrest. Around noon an active shooter was reported at the Seymour Public Library near downtown Seymour. Unconfirmed reports indicated the gunman entered the main entrance, and approached the welcome center where at least one round from a shotgun was discharged, according to witnesses at the scene. Debris from a glass panel was said to have injured one person, after which the gunman moved away a attempted to fire another round before the gun jammed. An individual then tackled the gunman until Police arrived. That gunmen has not been named, and has been apprehended by SPD. The investigation is ongoing, with additional details yet to be released by SPD and Indiana State police.
