Government says Weah’s “Charlatan and Mountebank” Characterization suits his Government; says “CDC officials were focused on amassing wealth for themselves, while the former President presided over the mass looting of the state.”
The Liberian Government has rejected a characterization by former President George Weah referring to members of the government as “charlatans” and “mountebanks.”
Speaking on behalf of the government, Deputy Information Minister Daniel Sando said such characterization better fits President Weah and his former officials, who, he noted, were voted out by the Liberian people.
Correcting what he described as the former President’s verbal errors, Sando explained that a mountebank is a person who deceives others, while a charlatan is someone who pretends to have knowledge or skills they do not possess. He said, based on those definitions, it is clear that the characterization matches the CDC government.
Sando added that despite having the confidence of ordinary citizens, which brought the CDC to power, the party deceived the people.
According to him, CDC officials were mainly focused on amassing wealth for themselves, while the former President presided over the mass looting of the state.
“The nation has not forgotten how this former President presided over the mass looting of the country,” Sando said. “Also, under the leadership of the former President, his foreign minister was clearing his name from sexual-related offenses in America, while our current foreign minister is engaging our strategic partners in the U.S.”
