Liberian Muslim Leader Expresses Frustration Over Lack of Support for Religious Holiday Campaign
MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Chief Imam Ali Krayee has voiced his frustration regarding what he describes as waning support from Liberia's Muslim community in the ongoing push for a national religious holiday. Speaking at an award ceremony organized by the Liberia National Muslim Youth, Krayee stated that he feels "tired" of shouldering the burden of advocacy alone.
For years, Krayee and other Muslim leaders have been lobbying the legislature to declare the end of Ramadan and Abraham Day as official national holidays. However, Krayee noted that the effort is often perceived by some Liberians as being driven by a single tribe rather than representing a unified Muslim voice, which he believes has undermined the cause.
The Chief Imam also addressed accusations that he has received "huge funding from the Arab world" for his advocacy, claiming that these allegations have discouraged others from joining the campaign.
Krayee called on young Muslims to take up the fight, warning that rising discrimination and divisions within the community are weakening their collective voice.
