The Sturgeon are making their way to Keshena Falls for the annual spring spawning. Our Environmental Services Director anticipates that the fish will begin spawning within the next couple of days. Because the sturgeon congregate at Keshena Falls, we will be closing a small stretch of the Wolf River to fishing starting this Friday, April 25, 2025. This means that there will be No Fishing allowed from Keshena Falls to the Menominee Tribal Clinic. There will be No Fishing signs posted at the favorite fishing sites along that stretch of river. Fishing will remain closed until the sturgeon finish spawning, which should be about a week. We ask that fishermen be patient and comply with the temporary closure. We appreciate your cooperation and apologize for the inconvenience.

We are still looking for volunteers to assist with the sturgeon guard program that will run concurrent with the sturgeon spawning and fishing closure. Anyone wishing to help guard may contact Carrie Waukau-Grignon at the Conservation Department to sign up for a shift. Her email is [email protected], or the Conservation Office telephone is 715-799-5116. You can also message the Menominee Tribal Conservation page.

Thank you for assisting us with protecting the Sturgeon.

Wae-wae-nen,

Maniyan F. Pyawasay #1281
Conservation Director/Chief Warden

Trees provide many benefits to the environment and our health and well-being. These long-lived members of our landscapes and communities provide shade, help reduce energy costs, clean the air we breathe, prevent soil erosion and stormwater runoff, and attract and provide homes for birds and pollinators. National Arbor Day, celebrated on the last Friday of April, recognizes the important role trees play in our environment.
