💆♀️ Exfoliating: Importance & Benefits
What it does:
Exfoliating removes dead skin cells that can clog pores and trap hairs beneath the surface.
Why it’s important for waxing:
1. Prevents ingrown hairs: Dead skin can block hair follicles, causing hair to grow back into the skin. Regular exfoliation helps keep the path clear for regrowth.
2. Improves wax grip: A smooth, clean surface lets wax adhere better to the hair (not the skin), which results in more effective hair removal and less discomfort.
3. Reduces bumps and irritation: By keeping the skin clean and clear, exfoliation helps avoid post-wax breakouts and razor bump-like irritation.
Signs It's Time to Exfoliate
1. You notice tiny bumps or ingrown hairs starting to form.
- These are early signs that dead skin cells are trapping new growth.
2. Your skin feels rough or bumpy to the touch.
- This texture means dead skin is building up on the surface.
3. You're 2-3 days post-wax and your skin is no longer red or tender.
- Once the sensitivity goes down, gentle exfoliation is safe and effective.
How Often to Exfoliate After Waxing
2-3 times per week is ideal, depending on your skin type and waxed area.
Sensitive skin? Start with once a week and work up.
More resilient skin (like legs)? You may handle every other day.
💧 Moisturizing: Importance & Benefits
What it does:
Moisturizing keeps your skin hydrated, soft, and resilient.
Why it’s important for waxing:
1. Healthy skin = better waxing experience: Dry, cracked skin can cause the wax to pull unevenly or stick too much, making waxing more painful and less effective.
2. Promotes smoother results: Well-hydrated skin heals faster and maintains a smoother texture post-wax.
3. Reduces flaking and discomfort: Moisturized skin is less likely to flake, itch, or become irritated after waxing.
When to moisturize:
Daily, except for the day of your wax — skip lotion on that day to ensure the wax adheres properly. Resume moisturizing 24 hours post-wax to aid recovery and maintain softness.
