Fulfillment of a long-cherished dream came true on Monday, Jan. 19, 1925 at the beginning of the second semester. The students and faculty walked into their handsome new building on Ninth Avenue for the first time. Over the weekend staff moved their classrooms from the old building into the new.
One of the most modern features of the building was the individual lockers that were built into the walls of the corridors. The drinking fountains were built in the walls thus conserving more space in the halls. The corridors themselves were 10 feet wide with marble terrazzo floors.
The corridors were equipped with floor drains and hose outlets so that janitors could keep the halls perfectly clean by flooding them with water every night. Dirt cleaned from the rooms could be washed away by running water through the halls. It was another step in the direction of scientific sanitation.
There were two laboratories for physics and chemistry classes. The equipment was carefully selected and was the best and most modern.
The three floors of the BHS was one of the best arranged and planned school buildings in the state.
A beautiful building indeed!
